Question about 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

I have an automatic 2004 Chevy Cavalier with 55,000 miles. Twice now I have had the car die on me while I was decellerating. As I am slowing, the steering locks up, all of the lights on the dash board flash, then the power to the car cuts out. Between these stalling fits, I have replaced the battery, but that is all.

My car is an audi a4 automatic sometimes it will not reverse and dashboard gearbox display flashes

Sounds like what happened to our 2004/A4/Cab., twice. both times the dealership replaced the transmission contol module. The second time it was repolaced with about 55,000 miles, out of warranty, I was able to get the dealership to replace this transmssion control module uner the 100,000 mile emissions warranty. So good luck.

They say the transmission is shot. I am not convinced.

I have a hard time believing the tranny is shot after only 55,000 miles. Get it up on jacks and start it with you under the car and someone else shifting. The linkage could be completely out of adjustment. (The speedo thing is strange though.)

If the linkage appears to be the problem, and is sloppy and loose, there you are. But if not, you may need to rebuild it. But I would get a second opinion from a well known smaller shop where the owner works there and is known for honesty.
