Question about 1999 Dodge Ram

1 Answer

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram that quits running (randomly) at highway speeds or even at a traffic light. You never know when it will happen. The instruments quit working, fuel gage shows empty when it is full, the temp goes to the left when it was normal. Also after it stops running, the starter will turn the engine over but it want start. Any suggestions??

My dad had the same problem with his truck, if you wiggle the harness that goes into the ecm(computer on the right firewall) it should start back up. If it does then your probably gonna have to replace the ecm

Can you be more specific does it happen only on the highway what is the speed is it when accelerating does it happen on other roads, does it start right up after stalling as it seems unlikely that it would just be the highway in order to even try and figure it out more information is required

1999 dodge 3500 truck. The heater blower motor is not working.

Somewhere in the speed switch or connected to it there is a resistor which controls the speed. These blow out on occasion. I had this happen on my car and the result was that the fan would only run on high. However, depending on how the circuit in your truck is wired, it may quit completely. From what you say, you have power all the way to the switch and none beyond it. Yes, at least one, if not more, of the wires you mention should be hot. If it isn't, you have no power going to the fan.

I drive about 260 miles a day. my 1999 dodge truck has been running about 210-230 degrees. i drive about 70 mph. if i slow to 55-60 the temp stays 210.

seems high to me. summer thermostats open at 185 , winter thermostats open at 195. At highway speeds , there should be more than enough air flow through the radiator to keep engine in the normal range. Your radiator might be pluged up and cooling poorly , but I suspect your temp guage might be inacurate.
