Question about 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora

1 Answer

I have a 2001 aurora 4.0. The driver door functions fine. For some reason, the other 3 door's power windows and locks do not work, nor does the remote lock/unlock work on those 3 doors.

Hi,

Check the 10 amp RRDR MDL fuse in the rear fuse box underneath the seat.If the fuse is good, more likely you have a wiring problem.

The orange wires on the door modules on the rear should have voltage. The orange wires on both of the rear door modules which control the windows and locks is the power wire which runs directly to the 10 amp fuse. Check to see if power has made it to the 10 amp fuse and you will also want to check for power on the orange wires at the door modules.

Good Luck!!

Thanks!!

The last time I drove the car it had rained. I had not driven it for 2 weeks. When I got in the car, the driver side rear floor was soaked and the drivers side front floor was damp. (Thats another issue).

The fuses were/are fine. The circuit breaker is fine. The fuse box area under the back seat is dry. Was wondering about wiring running under the carpet on that side. I see it goes under the carpet. Perhaps this info helps a bit more. Appreciate your input.

The last time I drove this car was 2 weeks ago. It had rained. When I got in the car Friday (its garaged), the front driver's side floor was damp, the driver's side back floor was soaked. The fuse box area under the rear seat was dry.

Wasn't sure if the wiring that heads under the carpet to the front from the back fuse box area has anything to do with the door window/lock operation. Appreciate your input and will accept your next response.

    Thanks,

Hey, did u fix the problem, I have the same exact issue and with the water and all. I just opened the door panel today, seems some wise guy wedged a block of 2x4 to jam the window closed, the cable in the window regulator got chewed up. Other then that, strange electrical issue just like yours. I wonder if some circuit breaker locked up somewhere, or the moduale went into safe mode if that's at all possible. Let me know if you found a solution. Thanks. wolfhaul@hotmail.com

2001 olds aurora, no power to passenger side window modules..plugged them into driverside doors they work.. also tried pass. side window motors on d.s and they work fine, any idea on what wire is power....

If the driver window works, the 30A PWR WDO CB and the 10A DRVMDL fuse in the rear fuse block must be OK. The passenger window gets power from the 10A PASS MDL fuse and that should be checked. The rear windows get power from the 10A RRDR MDL fuse and that, too, should be checked. The same circuit breaker and fuses protect the door locks so replacement of the burned out fuses should clear up your problem

If the lock out switch is not on, I would check for power and ground at the driver's master switch.

2001 aurora rear door lock and window does not work

There is a door module in each door. This could be the issue and would be the next part I would try. I have also had issues with the connectors going to this module.
Note also that the switches are tied into the master switch on the drivers door. Make sure the "window lock" is not on. Although this would not effect the power door lock.

There is a control module in each door with connectors. I have already had one where the wiring in the connector was bad. This takes some troubleshooting, but sometimes moving things around while trying to run the windows will should you where the loose connection is.

I have a 2001 aurora (but it is not here right now) but I am almost positive that the owners manual has a procedure for programming the doors to work different ways depending on how you program it-look in your owners manual, it has something to do with your being able to 'customize' for individual drivers. If you look at the back of your key fob, it has a '#1" or #2' on it-that is so that different drivers have the ability to program how the mirrors, radio, heater/climate control, seats and door locks work when the fob module get that particular signal.

2001 aurora power window/lock failure.

Power Windows Operation
The vehicle is equipped with power windows controlled by the door modules. Each passenger door power window can be operated, either from a switch built into the driver door switch assembly (DDSA), or from a switch mounted locally on its associated door. The driver door power window can only be operated from the switch built into the DDSA.
If the driver door module (DDM) receives a window switch request from any of the window switches built into the DDSA, the DDM checks the Class 2 serial data to see if conditions are correct (i.e. ignition switch position) to permit window operation to occur. If conditions are correct, the DDM, either supplies power and ground to its associated window motor, or sends a command via the power door serial data line to the passenger door module controlling the window. The passenger door module controlling the window then supplies power and ground to its associated window motor to move the window as requested.
When one of the local window switches mounted on one of the passenger doors is operated, the associated passenger door module examines the request and checks to see if there are any messages from the DDM prohibiting the window operation. If conditions are correct, and no prohibitive messages have been received from the DDM, the associated passenger door module then supplies power and ground to its associated window motor to move the window as requested.

Class 2 data network wires under the carpet behind driver seat. Water shorts out the network an and it won't work .
your looking for tan/white wire's and a connector . This is where the problem is .

Drivers window does not move and sometimes display reads drivers side front door ajar and i cant even open gas cap

So as not to be repetitive, for the failure of your power window or windows, review this handy diagnostic article, which identifies the possible causes, from a bad fuse, relay to window motor, etc.:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Windshield_Windows_Window_Does_Not_Roll_Up_Down.htm

For power door lock failure, similarly, see this handy diagnostic article:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Locks_Power_Locks_Do_Not_Lock_When_Pressing_Locking_Switch_Button.htm

This should help.
