Question about 1991 Cadillac Seville

1 Answer

My daughter has a 1996 Cadillac Seville, she is on her third battery in 6 months. They have checked the alternator and says that it is good. This time, it died on her while she was driving. There is no cranking power and jumping it does no good. The radio was working when it first died, but now it doesn't work nor are there any dashboard lights. the headlights work and so does the alarm bell when you open the door. Otherwise there seems to be no power at all. Have checked all the fuses under the hood and all are okay. Any suggestions?

Check the ground wire on the battery itself, and the other end that Its grounded to,, your alt and all the components can be good when checked, because your checking them ,, if the vehicle is going through batteries that fast ,, you have either a bad ground or regulator,, place a volt meter on both posts of the battery while the motor is running,, you should have in the area of 13-15 volts being directed to the battery from the alt ,, if not, and the alt is putting out the right voltage,, its your regulator

My 97 Cadillac Seville will not start and dies while driving.

Check battery leads. If they're loose, or not making good contact, the engine will shut down or possible not start. It's a safety feature to protect the alternator.

My cadillac ran out of gas and now the lights aren't coming on and its not turning over

This sounds like a dead battery or connection at the battery, are you sure you ran out of gas or the car died and you thought it was gas? anyway have the battery checked and if its dead then replace it and make sure to have the alternator checked, if the alternator is not charging then the car will run until it drains the new battery, hope this helps good luck.

While cranking loud backfire than i restart engine again than it cranks than starts up,this happend about 6 times during 3 months. Car did same thing yesterday, but it just cranks won't start 98 olds...

Not sure if you have a 1996 Cadillac Seville or a 1998 Olds Aurora but I would check the Ignition Coil Packs. One or more of them may need to be replaced. Also if you were working on the car and got the wires plugged onto the wrong coils then the firing order sequence would not be correct and this can cause a misfire or backfire conditon.

Ignition wires cannot rest near the primary wire harness of the ignition module, which can cause electrical interference and a no start condition or a misfire condition

On my friends 1997 Cadillac Seville it was easy to replace all 4 coil packs took less than 30 minutes and made the car run much better. Just make sure to get the firing order right. If necessary find a diagram of the correct firing order for you vehicle.

A good place for mail order auto parts is

I have pasted a picture below of what an ignition coil pack looks like

I put a new stereo im my 1996 seville and it wont get power

sounds like its wired wrong .. there are three power inputs to the radio .. one is on all the time .. its for the clock only ... the second is from the panel lamp dimming circuit .. it turns on when the panel lights are on ... the third is the main power to the radio .. it is only on when the ignition is on or in accessory mode ..

1994 Cadillac Seville is draining the battery. Pulled the modular fuse and Radio fuse and still getting a drain on the battery. Disconnected the altenator and still getting a drain on the battery. What...

Check the cells on the battery, if they are dry or not full of water then they can go bad. That would incorporate the battery to keep dying. When you start the car it feeds off the alternator, and then starts to die.
Check your charging system, test the battery.

1991 Cadillac Seville wont turn over starter tested and is fine. Its drained 3 batteries in the last 12 months. Tryed banging on it and nothing.

Have your alternator tested too; if it has a sick diode, it can drain the battery and also shunt current away from the starter as well as damage the battery by applying unrectified voltage on one leg of the output. I replaced SIX (6) Delco alternators in nine years on a car built in '95. It would have been more except the engine failed at 57,600 miles and I junked the lemon.
If the starter solenoid is not integrated on your Caddy, it too can fail which will cause too much lost voltage trying to get to the starter.

Car won't start, battery power loss could it be the alternator?

Alternator should have better than 13.5v output with all accessories on including headlamps.Check with volt meter right at battery terminals (running) If not it's not working properly. Doubtful from what you have said that starter is bad. Also check that terminal connections are clean and tight on battery.
