Check for a loose battery cable. I had a Buick that did that but when I closed the hood I guess it made contact and would start up and run for weeks. My local mechanic could not figure it out. I eventually took it to a dealer and it only cost me a hand shake.

This engine is electronically controlled so the first thing that must be done here is to have the systems control computer tested for fault codes and then do the proper diagnostics based on those codes.

Just having fuel is not enough on this engine, here are the spec's. Even 1 psi out of spec can cause a no start.

Fuel Pressure

If you can get it running again, get it to an electrical shop where they can test the charging system. If the alternator is still bad, it will continue draining the battery. If it won't run, pull the alternator and take it to a shop that can test it.

You may have a timing problem. Have you double checked to make sure that piston #1 is just barely past Top Dead Center? Sometimes when a person puts belts on it turns the pullies, and knocks off the timing. Also, did you undo the motor mounts and jack the engine up to remove the H2O Pump? If you did, you may have unseated the transmission. which would explain why the car died after going three feet.
