Timing belt alignment for an 1988 honda accord

Put the crank on top dead centre.there will be a mark on the crank sprocket and case also there will be a mark on the cam gear. Though allways use tippex to put your own marks on the sprockets and case before removing the old belt . If you can locate the factory marks highlight them with tippex aswell. If you do this you know that the new belt has gone back exactly in the right place. Taking a few photos after you have marked it and before removing the old belt will be useful. I have had times where ive relied on factory marks and it has not been right.

How to set timing belt on a 1985 Honda Accord

You need a timing light.
Hook up the timing light (follow it's instructions)
Warm the car, find the timing marks using the light.
Loosen the distributor and bump it forward or back, whichever corrects your timing.
The honda has three timing marks. I found it useful to dab some white out on the marks to make them easy to see.

Timing belt

Well basicaly there is no adjustment it has timing marks and the belt goes on with the marks on the points.cam pulley has a stamped mark up with line marks that go evenly one on each side has to be even with top of the head.crank pulley the woodruff key goes straight up facing the cam pulley. The balance pulley has a v mark on the pulley and a mark on the block and those go together, dont worry about the water pump there is not timing mark on that.Good Luck

I have a 98 Honda Accord VL, 6 cy and need the timing belt changed. But my mechanic tells me he doesn't have an Offset Essentric Cams tool for the job. Where can I get one or do I need to go to a Hond

get the tool from a snap on rep or mac rep but it sounds like you should pick another mech, thats familiar with hondas they are a little diff to work on .
