Why does 1997 jeep cherokee stall when acceleratng cold

Check the plug wires. It does no take many loose connections to take the kick out of an engine. Turn off the engine and press all the wires down around the cap of the distributor and do the same for each plug.

If that does not help, one of the wires may need replacement? New set of wires start at $30 on a six cylinder.

I HAVE 1997 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 4.0 LITERS HAVE TWO CODES PO351 AND PO320. I INSTALLED NEW CRANK POSITION SENSOR AND HAS THE SAME PROBLEM ENGINE RUNS FINE ALSO AFTER SOME MILES ENGINE DIE AND WE...

After it stalls, turn the key back on and listen for the fuel pump in the tank. If you don't hear it it's likely it's bad. (bad ones bind when hot and usually show no code).
Otherwise check the wiring continuity for the cps and check the signal from the pickup in the distributor. (check all the way to the computer itself. Of course, check all the relays and make sure they are good (most can be interchanged with each other except for ac relay)

Just bought my son a 1996 jeep cherokee. Today it

If the starter is getting proper voltage at main lead and trigger wire (with the key in "start") pull the starter. If it was making strange sounds likely there is something wrong with it. Check flywheel as well and make sure you can turn the engine by hand. If you aren't getting the proper voltage, check the battery, connections and starter relay (in power distribution center)

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee cranks but won't start

Same thing happened to me at about 140k. It was the fuel pump. Best way to test if your pump is failing and loosing pressure is to see if the car will start immediately after it has been running, or turn the key to the alt position for a few minutes before starting. If your engine fires faster after it has been running or the key has been in the alt position you will probably need a new fuel pump. Great news is with a very deep socket to get the tank straps off its a 30 minute job to replace the pump/filter assembly.
