Hi this sounds rather bad, are you putting it in 3rd gear to start as this would be easier than 1st, can you turn the engine by hand? as the engine could be seized or worse still the cam belt broken and the pistons are hitting the valves, you need to check these things really before trying to start it as you could cause allot of damage to the engine if you have not already done so by push starting it, you also can try jacking up the front so that both wheels are off the ground, put it in 4th gear and try turning the wheels with your hand only one side, if both wheels turn you should be ok, if it is impossible to turn the wheels, you have a seized engine..hope this helps, get back to me when you have tried these things first..ok

Sounds like the neutral safety switch is going bad. Next time it does this to you with the engine off and the selector in neutral pop the clutch by pushing it down all the way then letting your foot slide off to the side so it's pops up and then see if you can start it. If this works you need to adjust the clutch and or replace the neutral safety switch on the transmission.

Got 300zx thats sat for 8 yrs car starts and runs good but clutch is staying engaged.I have heard i need to check slave cylinder if so where is it located

Slave cylinder is located on the side of the transmission behind the main flywheel housing and points towards the engine. Follow the clutch pipe down from the master cylinder. The slave is about 12cm long by 4cm in diameter with a bleed nipple on the top. You may want to change the fluid after 8 years! What can happen if the car has not been moved is that the clutch disc becomes bonded to the flywheel by corrosion, exactly in the same way the brake pads can seize the rotors. Make sure the wheels are free to rotate. Lift a rear wheel clear of the ground and chock the front wheels, as you start the car the differential will transfer the power to the lifted wheel. With the foot hard on the clutch take the engine up to about 2000rpm, hold the accelerator at that speed and pull the hand brake on and off slowly. With luck the snatch of the handbrake biting make break loose the clutch plate. You will know when it breaks free as the engine will rev freely. When you do get it free, slip the clutch for a while to scrape clean the friction plate on the flywheel. Likewise when the car is moving ride the brakes to polish the rotors of corrosion.

My Ranger acts like the clutch isn't pushed in when I try to start it. Everything lights up but the starter won't kick in

theres a switch on the arm of your clutch pedal just under the dash you have to make sure the button is popping out on it when you push the clutch this completes a ground so that the starter will work, not sure if thats why but try this first
