Most likely that the starter motor solenoid terminals have corroded. If you can see the starter motor, look for the smaller cylinder mounted parallel to it. Give it a sharp tap or two with a hammer and you'll usually find that the car will start. You might have to find a long metal bar or screwdriver to place against the solenoid, and then hammer the end of the bar as getting and swinging a hammer down there may be tricky.

If you're lucky, then after a few more starts the corrosion will wear off, but if not you'll have to replace the starter assembly.

Have fully charged battery, but when I turn the key, all I get is a click. Bad solenoid or is the starter locked up? Car sat for about 7 months. Started up and ran fine yesterday...today the problem...

Visually inspect for security lights flashing when you try to crank it. Otherwise take a hammer to the case of the starter while someone tries to crank it.

I have a Lexus Rx400h, the engine won't start. the lights, including dashboard lights, aircon, radio are on, just won't go to ready and start

Can you ensure the car is in park?
Move lever to D and then back into Park and see what happens.
I have heard with this particular model, we have the environmentally unfriendly RX 330, that the batteries lack of charge may play havock with the electrics in these cars.
I religously charge my battery every six months with a smart charger so its always in peak, I also find a quick zap at the first cold snap of autumn / winter gives us trouble free motoring.

1998 sonoma won't start

Your Battery is Corroded or Bad.... Pull your Battery, Clean the Terminals, Charge your Battery and have it tested and if it is bad, replace it. If it is Good, then Clean the Terminals and the Post REALLY GOOD and reinstall and your problem will go away. If your Battery is Good, test your Alternator. Your Battery should have 12.6-12.8 Volts. When it is Running, it should be 13.4-14.6 Volts Depending on your Alternator and Voltage Regulator

My alternator won'charge and it and the battery

batteries will show 12 v and still not have enough amps to start the vehicle, clean all the connection points on the battery , and charge it fully, start the vehicle and check again for voltage at the battery posts, you should have a reading of 13.5 to 14.5 volts, if not, yes you have a alternator malfunction,

My truck has sat for awhile but it boosted off just fine. I t ran for about 10-15 min then died. I tried to start it again nothing happened. I tried to boost it off nothing not even a click. I had lights...

the battery is totally to the point that not enough amps are being received from it,, so a jump won't even help, charge it completely ,, the lights and other items on the car require small amperage and 12 volts,, the starter requires a bunch of amps to turn it over, after you do that ,, check the alternator you can use a meter on the battery posts with the car running, and should have a reading of 13.5 to 14.5 volts

Vehicle was parked and not started for 2 months.

Hi, there will be diodes in the generator that are letting the power from the battery drain away through the parked times when not in use. to prove it charge the battery- then disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, connect 24 hours later and see if the battery as kept it charge, if so - fit new alternator, good luck.

It is the Alternator. The Battery will Charge But drains while Driving. The Alternator is not Recharging the Battery while the Motor is Running.

I had a similar problem. My 1998 Lexus ES300 wouldn't start. I had to change idle control valve. I don't have such problems ever since. I read that many used Lexus/Toyota owners had the same problem with that valve.
