You can reset the computer by removing the ecm fuse for 30 seconds or so, also look for vacuum leaks, main reason for high idle

Idle marks 1200rpm but sounds to low

Could be the tach isn't accurate at low rpm, that isn't unusual. Try connecting an external tach for testing.

Running rough after overheating

The idle is controlled by the computer, based off of sensor readings. Whenever I replace the battery in my Montero, the car won't idle very well because the computer has been reset and it has to 'learn' the environment. After I drive it for a day or two it runs fine. It is pretty simple to try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes to reset your computer. Take it for a long drive afterwards so the computer re-learns the environment and see if resetting the computer fixes the bad idle. I would think the service engine light would be on if you had a sensor issue.

I disconnected my battery in 08 tundra and now it wont idle

disconecting batt resets the computer. now it needs to learn how to set everything to run again. disconnect batt for atleast 60 seconds, re atach, start car it will start and die(dont press gas) do this over and over until it idles (could take up to 10 times). by pressing the gas you make the computer think it is idling to high so it keeps turning down the idle. it will idle fine after reseting computer and starting several times without hitting gas peddle.

2003 impala intermittent high idle with high iac count iac tested good

Before buying a ECM for the car I would do a smoke test on the vacuum line to be sure there is no leaks and causing the idle to very. Hope this helps.

High idle on 97 honda odyssey

Try to see if there are any codes in the obd-II computer that would indicate what is unusual about the 97 honda odyssey that would cause a high idle. For instance, if there is a code for a bad iacv (idle air conrol valve) if so equipped, then this could be the cause of the problem. Other causes could be a vacuum leak somewhere under the hood, as another example. Good luck on this repair.

The battery was just taken out the termonals had to be cleaned it was not taking a a charge now its stalling out everytime i stop when i start it the rmps are high i have no idea i know with older cars...

if the only thing that was done was the terminals cleaned then it needs to relearn the run sequence.the rpm`s should lower as the car warms up while idling unless they are above 1,000,which would be too high at idle.you can try to drive it with 2 feet to get to an area to safely drive it but i don`t know the area you live in.just make sure a vacume hose wasn`t knocked off as this will cause high idle.

The RPM on my 1996 Saturn runs between the numbers 2 and 3 and stays at the same RPM when sitting idle. Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks for choosing FIxYa and welcome to the site. Check to make sure that your idle control is set properly. It may be set to high, thus causing to have high rpms. If it is correct, it may be your idle control sensor or possibly a map sensor. I would check the idle sensor before the map sensor. Thanks for using FIxYa.

High fast idle at start up.

On most newer cars there is a fast idle motor controlled by the computer that will hold the fast idle till the engine reaches a preset temp in the computer then the engine should drop down to the set idle according to specs for that car. If the oil pressure continues to stay low after the idle goes down you may need to replace the oil pressure sending unit or if worse case the oil pump.
