The light flashes to indicate there is a fault in the operating sequence. The soft top control module has set sequence order for the latches and microswitches to open and close in. Its very common for the two battery contacts inside the remote to come loose from the circuit board, causing all kinds of issues with units no longer working properly. Open the remote and inspect all the solder joints on the circuit board, re-solder any loose ones and it should go back to normal.

The remote trunk release radio signal from the key is conveyed to the overhead control panel control module (N70) via theantenna. This transmits the signal to the electronic ignition switch control module (N73) via CAN data buses. If a valid signal is recognized there the PSE control module (combined) (A37) is actuated via CAN data buses. The remote trunk release IR signal from the key is conveyed to the respective door control module (N69/1, N69/2) via the IR receivers (A26/1, A26/2). This transmits the signal to the electronic ignition switch control module (N73) via CAN data buses. Having the same problem. Locked out of my trunk as the remote wont open it, and the Soft top is not working.
My instinct is to go for the simple approach first and check to see if there is a 30A fuse which controls both.

Changing battery in Ford Escort key ring?

If you have the factory Ford remote you do not see any screw holding this case together. It is simply snapped together. Use a butter knife to open. Fit the knife at the seam and gently pry open. The the battery can be replaced

The remote only works some of the time. can the

it could be a weak battery or the remote itself. To change the battery you need to pry the remote apart with a screw driver where the two halves come together. Look carefully at the sloder joints inside the remote they sometimes come apart causing a poor/no connection between the battery contacts and the little circuit board inside the remote.

Ford battery operated remote entry keypad

Mine died as well. The whole internet had nothing to say about this damn thing so I was going for broke, as they say.
Well, here goes.
Tools required: 1) wide'ish but slightly sharpened flathead to go into the small groove (~1 cm) at the right side base of the cover, 2) razor/exacto knife 3) wife's sweatshirt to protect my paint job!
Step 1: Pry the **** out of the cover (less twisting/more prying), with any luck the backing tape will hold and the cover will not.
Step 2: pealn away if possible or (ugly part) make a circumferential cut around the soft button material as close as you can to the sealing groove that the cover was in.
Step 3: remove buttons, support plate, and circuit card from the base and replace the 3V BR2335 button style battery.
Step 4: Hope it all goes back together with reasonable weather resistance. We'll see...
PS Maybe if it was above 26F it would have been easier...
