Sometimes when the gears do worn it happens so and when the light blinks it means there is something wrong in the system.

Four wheel drive engages and kicks out, light comes on and stays on and then kicks out the transfer case shifter

I would suspect you have a bad wheel speed sensor or a speed sensor defective... do you have an ABS/CheckEngine/4 wheel drive light on somewhere on the vehicle display... That might help fix the problem.

Will not go in 4 low 4x4 lights start blinking after trying . reset light by unhooking battery . then goes in 4 high normelly but not 4 low. i thlnk auto 4 is working 4 liter SOHC 1998

Normally 4 wheel drive HIGH is engaged on the fly or as you are moving more than 10 km per hour or 10 miles per hour but 4 wheel drive LOW is engaged at around 3 to 5 mph. no more or you could ruin the transfer case. Try going from 2 high to 4 high by switching back and forth and then try 2 high to 4 low when idling along. What usually happens is the mechanics under the car freeze up or rust up and you have to switch back and forth to free it up.

I don't know how to get my 2001 kia sportage into four wheel drive

On small shift behinde gear lever there is 3 settings. H4 = 4 wheel drive high range, L4 = 4 wheel drive low range, h2 = 2 wheel drive high range. as soon as jou engage to 4 wheel drive a green light on the dash board will appear to indicate that the car is in 4 wheel drive. if not check fuse - check air pipes at front wheels. 2001 gmc jimmy keeps kicking into 4 wheel drive

the 4 wheel low light will usually only blink because the low gear is meant for a very slow speed and usually wont activate with the vehicle in motion i would have to say the sudden switch to 4x4 though would probably be a short in the wiring some place
