Fuel tank leak in 1997 Subaru Impreza L

I am borrowing my brother-in-law's 1997 Subaru Impreza L. Since I got it 2 months ago, there is a strong smell of fuel inside the car each time I buy gas. Since he had it inspected just before loaning it to me and said he remembered a fuel smell in the past anyway...I figured it was just a quirk to get used to. Today as I was adding gas, the station attendant saw fuel leaking below the car. So, I'm sure it must need a repair at this point...what will need to be done and how much might I expect to pay?

Your strong smell of fuel was in side the car , under the hood . ? now check to see if here is any gas leak under the hood --- gas line , filter. check under the car for any leak , or by the gas tank . it might be just sweating, make a good check , re ply me what you find

I have a Subaru Impreza 1989.. I'm having problems

Sometimes a faulty gas cap can set this code. If you ever replaced the filler cap with an aftermarket cap, get an oem gas cap from Subaru. If that isn't the problem, a shop could run a smoke test of the evap system to look for a leak. Fuel vapors are escaping from the evap system somewhere between the gas tank and the charcoal canister and the engine. If you can smell gas at times from front or back of car it may help you to start looking for the leak, but a smoke test is often required.

RAW GASOLNE SMELL. 2008 Subaru Impreza saloon.

Sounds to me like an inspection of the fuel lines and fuel tank need to be done. It could need replacement fuel lines depending on how many miles you have on the vehicle

Wondering if a fuel tank for a 1999 legacy will fit a 1997 impreza all whel drive?

Best bet on this inquiry is to go to a local salvage yard. A lot of them possess a interchange listing on parts from different years / models.

Good luck!
