Question about 1996 Honda Accord

2 Answers

1996 Honda Accord. I've had my Accord for around 3 years now and when I first purchased it, I noticed that it had a slight rattling noise when I revved the car to accelerate, but it seemed to cause no problems with how my vehicle ran. 3 years later, it still doesn't effect how the car runs, but the noise is much more noticable, occuring when I accelerate, start the vehicle, and when I am in reverse. The noise is not high pitched whatsoever and the best way I can describe it is a rattle. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks, Dallas

It sounds like a loose exhaust heat shield. You'll have to get under it and inspect the exhaust system for loose shields or missing / broken hangers.

You might have a broken belt in the plys of your tire. Feel around each one on the sides to see if there is a slight protrusion or bubble. This happens from over inflating or hitting a major bump.

My 1992 Honda Accord EX-R makes a clunking/rattling sound...

It's probably your cv (constant velocity) joint. Jack up the honda and put it on safety stands, look at the area behind the center of both front wheels, there is a rubber boot. This boot protects the cv joint from dirt, road grime, water, salt, etc. If you see splits in it or grease on the boot, it has deteriorated, and is letting contaniments in. The damage has already been done if it makes a rattling noise going around corners at slow speed. I changed both cv joints (purchased rebuilt axles for $49 each) in my 92, but it is a big job labor wise. There's a lot to take apart to remove the axles.
