Check the battery cables themselves. sounds like a bad ground or bad starter.Take it out and have it tested. most Major parts stores will test at no charge. Hope this helps. Please rate my fix as i strive to be the best. Thanks Ray. if you need more help get back to me

1999 ford explorer wont start. battery is new.wont start when jumped. it tries to turn over but barely. then only hear a click. when you turn the key the dash lights and radio lights flicker on an

Sounds like starter motor given your slow to no turnover, I assume your new battery has full charge, if not, check with meter, it may be a defective battery, or another issue with connections, did you clean cable connections when you put in new battery? I assume your engine was running properly before battery change and is not partially seized due to overheating or low oil.

Good luck,

Car won't start, has brand new battery, but when I try to turn it over it just clicks and if I hold it down it makes a buzzing noise. Other than the starter, what else could it be?

That is a sign of a bad or weak battery. It is not getting enough juice to crank engine. Have you tried jump start. If it does jump start, the battery is bad

Changed my battery and the cable ends and now my 94 ford ranger will not start. It makes a click noise and nothing else. I tried tapping on the starter and it still will not start.

SO, would it crank before you changed the cables and battery? When you arc the solenoid does the starter actually crank?

Tried to start, it goes click one time.

It sounds like a faulty alternator, the alternator uses the momentum of the running motor to charge your battery. if this is faulty than the battery will not get charged while running and go flat. use a multimeter to test the battery. or try to jump start the car, if it starts when jump started than you know its an alternator.

When i try to start it, it makes that clicking noise. i think i need a new starter right? but where is it? i'd like to get one at napa and try to put it in myself

NO. The first thing you need to do is check the battery because that is probably the fault.

If you can "jump start" the car by connecting up power from another vehicle then you have a flat or failed battery.
If you are not familiar with how to do this then here is a web site you can read......

If the battery is old it may be faulty or not hold it's charge and need to be replaced. If it is under 3 years old it may be OK and just need to be put on a charger and fully re-charged. However it can still be faulty and require replacement if it will not hold it's charge.

Even a new battery will go dead if the car is running on the battery instead of the alternator.
Check alternator output.
First charge the battery up.
Then check voltage with a meter from Harbor Freight ($3).
Should be 12.5.
The start engine and rev it up.
Should go over 14.
But also clean and grease battery terminals, alternator terminals, and check engine ground strap.

My car will not start after battery has died. Tried jump start but it did not work. Could it be a problem with the alarm?

Is the car trying to do anything? If it just clicks, check the connections to the battery and make sure they are clean and tight. (no corrosion) Also, hopefully you charged it with the negative cable off (not a huge thing) but do not try to bypass the battery and jump it and try to get it going on the alternator- this can damage the electronics in the vehicle. The battery acts as a buffer to prevent damage to the vehicle's electronics. Lastly, you may just have a bad cell in the battery. They can corrode over time and on rare occasions they can literally short out themselves, Hope this helps you.
