I have a 1993 Chevy Lumina engine 3.1L> I am getting a code 12. What is that and how do I fix it?

Code 12 will always be the first code you get which simply meams that your computer and PROM (the memory chip in the computer) are working properly. If you did have a trouble code, how it works is the code 12 (1 and then2 flashes) would happen 3 times. Then after the code 12 any other codes would start. They would also flash 3 times and then move on to the next code and when all the codes were done there would be a longer pause then normal and code 12 would happen again 3 time and the cycle would start again. In other words if no other codes are coming up after the 12 (3 times) you're in good shape and your computer isn't detecting any malfunctions. I hope this helps.

They change an sensor on my 2003 suburban 1500 and this fixed the check engine light status. However they must of done something or not hooked something back up, since now the check engine light does not...

When you turn the key 'on' the Check Engine Light is supposed to illuminate-that is also a check for the system-they probably removed the CEL bulb or the fuse for it-not good, and easy enough to verify-if so I would register a complaint to any state agency that regulates auto repair or emission stations. A disabled CEL will not in and of itself cause a failure in most states, but a code will-You will need to have the car scanned to see what the code is, and then come back on here with the actual code for help.

The check engine light is flash, does that mean that the motor is gone?

No. A flashing Check Engine light does not mean that the engine is gone. What this means is that you have a problem with your engine management system that will cause rapid damage to the catalytic converter if it is not corrected immediately. You most likely have a severe misfire condition and/or fuel mixture problem. You need to have your engine controller scanned as soon as possible to find the cause of the problem and get it corrected. Severe damage will result if this is not done right away.

How to read error codes on a 98 pontiac sunfire 2.2l

You can not access the codes unless you use a code reader, this is because of the letter prefix and the number of codes, there are P codes for the engine and trans, B codes for the body, and I codes for some of the other systems in the body. These scanners are cheap, about $30 on ebay.
