2.0 EFI. No ignition. Replaced the distributor w/ coil, spark plugs, wires, cap, ignition module and ignition switch harness. Fuses are ok and have 12V to ignition switch
Yes. 12V at coil to ground on both +/- terminals. Also, 12V at module. Do you know the location of the igniters resistor on the engine?Yes. 12V at coil to ground on both +/- terminals. Also, 12V at module. Do you know the location of the igniters resistor on the engine?
I have a digital volt meter, but I should be able to see it when the reading is lost. I don't have an analog meter. But I will try it ---thanks.I have a digital volt meter, but I should be able to see it when the reading is lost. I don't have an analog meter. But I will try it ---thanks.

The ignition module is located underneath the distributor cap, while the ignition coil is mounted typically on the engine block on the same side about 6-9" away. The center spark plug wire will lead to the coil. The module can be found by removing the distributor cap, there is a wiring harness that plugs into it.
If you have spark at the coil the module is OK. The module fires the coil. Your problem then becomes the ignition wires, the distributor cap or the rotor. These are the items that carry the high voltage to the spark plug. There is also the possibility the spark is jumping off at the coil itself when all is hooked up. This happens because the resistance increases through the wiring and jumping the gap at the spark plugs. I hope your repair goes well. Thank you for using FixYa.
1979 ford 400 Drove inot shop did a cam shaft change and put all back together and no spark! put new coil , distributor, eletronic brian , wires ,rotor, cap, and check wire harness for brroken wires . still no spark? ANY IDEAS??
You need to check for spark at the number 1 spark plug if no spark then
it could be a few things
1.crank shaft position sensor
2. distributor cap or plugs
3. pick up coil inside distributor
4. ignition coil
5.ignition module
6.Blowen fuse check both engine fuses and inside cab fuses
7. oil pressure switch
You can pull the coil wire going into the distributor cap and check for
spark there if no spark there then your problem will be from the
ignition coil back
Help,
I have a 92 F-150 XLT with a 5.0. The ignition switch block burned up so I replaced it. Now it will not get spark when I crank it over, but when I crank it and let off of the key, I get one spark jump from the coil; to the distributer. (I have a spark tester I placed on the cap to the wire) I have replaced the coil and the ignition module that is on the fender attached to the brain, I have replaced the ignition cylinder and key (It was acting up) and I took the dash apart to see the wire harness to ensure there was no burnt wires. (The wire connection to the ignition block is not damaged from when the switch burned.
Does anyone know if there is a part that tends to go bad when the ignition block burns up??
Help, Thanks, Todd
I had the same problem recently but replacing the ignition Coil under the distributor (inside) solved the problem. Also replaced the distributor Cap and rotor at the same time.

The distributor rotor is turning and timed it to 10BTC on #1 cyl. by hand.
