. THATS USUALLY A SING OF THE OIL PUMP GOING BAD/WORN BEARING AT CRANK CAMS . WHEN ENGINES COLD THE OIL IS THICKER AND WHEN THE OIL HEATS UP IT GET THINNER CAUSING LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE. IF USUALLY THE LIGHTS COMES "ON" AT IDLE AT NORMAL TEMPETURE AND IT GOES AWAY WHEN ACCCELERATED. THOSE ARE SINGS OF WEAK OIL PRESSURE. ALSO CHECK THE THE WIRE TO THE OIL PRESSURE SENDER FOR RUBBING OR WEAR. HOPE THIS HELPS. THE BEST WAY TO BE SURE IS GETTING A OIL PRESSURE TESTER AT HARBOR FREIGHT THERE LIKE $20 OR SO AND TEST THE PRESSURE. AN AVERAGE SHOULD BE ABOVE 15PSI AT IDLE AND HIGHER 2500 RMS AT 22,000 35,000 PSI GOOD. HOPE THIS CAN HELP OR GIVE YOU A LEAD OR HLEP... SEND ME A FEEBACK PLEASE THANKS

Hello, I agree with the other experts. You should have a pressure gauge installed using a "T" block ahead of your current sensor. Then you can mount the auxillary oil gauge inside the van to monitor pressure and the factory equipped stuff will still work after you attach the original sender to the far end of the "T" block.

You could be getting raw gas into the crankcase. What you need to do is have a Repair shop attach a gas pressure gauge to your van overnight to see if you are losing gas pressure. A bad injector can dribble gas into your engine while it is parked. Over time this can ruin every bearing and bushing in the motor.

One way to test is to change the oil and filter and get your pressure readings from your new oil pressure gauge we discussed. Do not shut off the van once you have the fresh oil until you record the readings. Get a reading at idle, at 30MPH, and at 55MPH for example, even 70MPH.

Then drive your van normally and see if after 1 week, several weeks, a month or so if the pressure is not getting up to original readings with fresh oil. Then if the oil is thinning, you have contamination.

The newly installed pressure gauge we discussed will indicate the difference between your readings and the factory suggested readings and it will tell you how much damage is done. It is like a two-step process, you would need to replace the oil pump first with a new one to be able to tell if the damage went into the engine bearings. If the pressure comes up it was only a pump, if not, bearing time.

I see you have been here over a year. I hope my solution gives you the answer you need.

Have someone with a mechanical gauge check this first, this will confirm the exact oil pressure. if the oil pressure is in fact low check the following, does the oil have a gas smell yo it, is the engine low on coolant, having the engine run above recommended temp will cause the oil to thin out. get back to me if you need more help.please rate my fix as i strive to be the best. Thanks Ray

Oil light keeps coming on when there is oil, how to fix sensor light

The light is likely fine. There is a sensor on the engine that senses the oil pressure. Either the sensor has gone bad, or you have low oil pressure.
Replacing the sensor isn't difficult, but if you have low oil pressure, that can cause the whole engine to go bad, and cost you a whole lot.

Take it to a mechanic and have them measure the oil pressure. If it's ok, they can replace the sensor and you'll be fine.

Exclamation with oil can on dash

Loss of oil pressure/ low oil. DO NOT drive the car until it can be verified that you have oil. If that light is driven off a pressure switch, and the switch is bad, then the light is giving a false indication and the switch should be replaced. If you've lost oil from a leak somewhere, you could easily and quickly destroy your engine if you keep driving it.

Oil sensor light and alarm keep going off unless accelerating. New oil and filter. Any idea's ?

Low oil pressure. Replace the oil pressure sensor, if still happens, you may need to replace your oil pump. A blown gasket will also cause a drop in pressure

I have a 97 supercharged the oil light keep comin stay on while Im driven the oil is full

The oil light is for low oil pressure, not low oil.
You need to have someone check the actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge or change the oil pressure switch and see it the light still comes on.

Low oil pressure warning keep coming up but my oil pressure is fine

Could be a few things, first Get it checked with a mechanical gauge to test low motor oil, clogged oil filter, bad oil pump, clogged oil sump (pick up tube) or bad oil sending unit. Then replace sending unit sensor.

Could be lower oil level, low oil pressure, or a bad oil pressure sending unit.

I loze oil pressure after driven awhile what could be causeing this

Check you oil pressure with an in-line gauge to see if the sensor is working properly. These sensors go out often due to the heat of the engine. It is easy to replace this sensor. It is stuck in the engine block. To remove, you just unclip the electric connector, and turn the sensor conter-clockwise untill it comes out. Use thread-lock on the new one, and make sure to install the heat-shield for the sensor.
If you are losing oil pressure, it could be clogged return lines, or oil pump is going bad.
If it is the lines clogged up...then you can try to clean it by putting in an oil cleaner and drive for a short distance, then put in fresh oil & filter. You may need to disconnect and clean out lines if it doesn't work.
If the oil pump is bad, then it is a pain to replace, since the timing belt spins it's pulley. But it can, and must be done or your engine will suffer.
Good Luck!

Oil light comes on only when at an idle

I just had the same problem on an 04 Sebring with a 2.7L V6. The oil pressure sensor (switch) was the culprit. Several web references that I checked mention that the original sensors have issues with oil leakage, which eventually causes it to fail. The sensor itself is fairly inexpensive..about $15. It is located on the back side of the engine and is only accessible from under the car. Look for a small heat shield held on by three 15mm bolts. It is just to the driver's side of where the exhaust system goes behind the engine. The oil sensor is located under this shield. You will need a 1 1/4" deep socket to remove it. When installing the new sensor, be sure to use a torque wrench. It needs to be tightened to 14 ft/lb. Using more force than that, and you run the risk of damaging the sensor.

If this doesn't resolve the problem, you may have a problem with the oil pump either being defective or blocked with sludge. As one of the other gurus on here mentioned, this engine does have a known problem with sludge buildup. I hope this helps! Good luck!

Oil pressure light keeps coming on

Check the oil level is not low, and the oil in use is of suitable grade & quality.
If it only comes on at idle, you may have a faulty oil pressure alarm sensor switch.
Either replace it, or preferably, get the engine oil pressure tested using an independant oil pressure gauge.
If it is verified that the oil pressure is indeed low, you may have to look further for other engine problems, such as worn camshaft/crankshaft bearings.
