Question about Dodge Grand Caravan

1 Answer

The battery light came on and the instrument lights began to flicker. I checked battery and was fine. Battery light went off and flickering stopped. However, the flickering returns frequently and the battery light still comes on occasionally. What could be the cause? Car runs fine.

Could be a blown fuse or Loose connection to battery which is causing a small volatage drop which the car's computer responds by turning the light on to alert you, I wouldn't worry about it Check all connections and use a voltage meter while car is running and while its not see if there is a massive drop when car is running if so then you have a loose connection

I checked all the fuses already and there is no loose connection on the battery that I can find. This does not happen every time I drive the car, and the instrument lights flicker even if the battery light is off.

Your safest option will be to buy an error code reading device and see if any error codes are being logged on the cars computer, If no errors are appearing then its a loose connection and no problem with the car itself, However if there are error codes stored then it will point you into the direction of where the problem is occurring so you can fix the problem..

The error code reading machines can be bought from a local auto store pretty cheap

Sounds like the regulator might be going bad in the alternator.

Battery light flickers. new battery light still flickers. tested and alternator not charging battery. i do i determine if its the alternator or the fuse link?

Usually it is not a fuse link, but use a test light and check that you have current at the main terminal on the alternator. If you do the fuse links are fine, so next check your belt tension this is something that is overlooked often and is the cause of flickering alternator lights. Also check and make sure your cable ends are clean and tight. If all is fine that alternator or the voltage regulator in the alternator is going bad.

If voltage regulator is good, then the dimmer switch is probably bad.

I would check the alternator. Check the battery terminal connections to make sure they are tight. My immediate response remains to check the alternator.
