Is it possible that it's taking off in 3rd gear and staying there this is called failsafe mode. There is a good poss. that there is a problem in the gov pressure curcuit it's very common if you don't have access to a scanner you might want a local trans shop to take care of this for you.

Why is automatic transmission hard to shift?


Hard shifting in an auto trans is usually related to loss of vacuum or low transmission fluid.

Depending on the vehicle it's also possible there is an issue with the lockup converter. There is usually a solenoid in the transmission itself that controls the lockup on the converter and they tend to fail.

Loss of power climbing hills. Replaced the loss of power climbing hills. Replaced the transmission 2 years ago. Could it just be a dirty fuel filter or a bigger problem?


I got this, and it was a failed trans shift solenoid no 1. This rendered the trans unable to find low gears. However there should be a trouble code notified by a light on the dash.

My 4.9 cadillac northstar is running rough. starts fine but power loss is evident...jus ??t like the the term "misfire" is what i'm feeling. any history with these engines with this symptom


Hmm... I would start by checking the power train control module or the transmission control module. Caddies are famous for transmission shift control module going hay wire. Since it is shifting up when it should be shifting down, this gives you the feeling of losing power.

If a transmission code has been set ,it will be in 2nd gear,all the time

I have a suzuki jimny 2002 and get check engine light on and code P1600 an P0763 and when the switch is on i hear the relay on the TCM. can you suggest?


P0763 - Shift Solenoid C Electrical
Possible causes- Faulty shift solenoid C valve
- Shift solenoid C valve harness or connectors
- Shift solenoid C valve circuit is open or shorted
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
When is the code detected?The P0763 code is detected when the gear required by the ECM does not match the actual gear when vehicle is driven.Symptoms- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Transmission will not shift gears.P0763 Description Shift solenoid valve C is turned ON or OFF by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the park/neutral position (PNP) switch, vehicle speed and Engine Control Module (ECM) (throttle opening). Gears will then be shifted to the optimum position.

P1600 - Loss of KAM (Keep Alive ECM memory) Power; Open Circuit

Check fuel flow and pressure , if pressure is low check fuel pump. if flow is low replace fuel filter.

My 91 Subaru legacy AWD Auto doesn't shift w/o letting up on gas pedal or it shifts slowly it will free wheel id you floor it or in OD you let off gas and it free wheels until you give it gas and it...


sadly the early version of the 4 speed is prone to this type of failure. I have owed 4 that had this exact problem. the rear end of the main transmission case wears down at the transfer case and this causes an internal leak. The loss of fluid pressure causes the loss of function. I'm confident that a good transmission shop can fix this by using a case and parts from a newer version of the 4 speed auto

WHEN IM DRIVING, IT POPS OR JERKS ALL OF A SUDDEN AND THEN WONT SHIFT GEARS. WHEN IM ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND IT DOES THIS, IT WILL BARELY GO 55 MPH.


Your transmission fluid is dangerously low (tranny is dry). The pops & jerks are the transmission
internal components trying not to seize onto each other due to lack of lubrication and/or overheating.
Low transmission fluid leads not only to loss of lubrication but lots of overheating (of the tranny).
The loss of Elantra performance (speed tops out at 55), is caused by power loss due to friction inside the transmission. All your power is lost overheating the transmission (toward destruction), instead of
being transmitted through the transmission to the wheels.

The 2004 Elantra takes Hyundai SP-III Automatic Transmission Fluid, with 8.4 quarts used in a
total refill - but just 5 quarts at a fluid change. For How-to transmission fluid change instructions:

Automatic Transmission shifting problems.


i had the same thing...It's the transmission. It's REALLY noticeable shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. I was able to get my transmission fixed for 900 bux. That wasn't even a replacement so i can imagine how much it would cost to get it replaced. The shifting will get worse. By the end of my "experience" it wouldn't shift from 1st to 2nd for about 5 minutes until i drove it around for a bit. THen it would "warm up" to the idea of shifting to 2nd gear.
