Question about 1988 Ford F 250

1 Answer

The engine goes not want to start. Just had an overheating problem and had the heads redone at a good shop. It seems that when it is hot it just does not want to start. Once finally running then it is fine but will not restart until it has cooled off. The problem is with a 1988 Ford 350 with a 460 EFI engine.

Most common problem with these is the PIP module inside the distributor

the may cause of failure is that there is a grease used between the PIP and the distributor that works as a heat sink

when the distributor is removed it is likely that the bond has failed

06 cadillac cts engine hot a/c off

if I understand your problem the car is overheating with the A/C turned off? u may have a bad thermostat or a blockage in radiator. open the radiator cap when car is cold and start the engine. look into the radiator and see if fluid is flowing if its not that's good it means when engine is cold the thermostat is closed. after the car reaches normal operating temp the stat should open and the fluid flow through the radiator. if this is not the case then replace thermostat. if it passes this test then check the top radiator hose to see if its hot then check the bottom hose it should be about the same temp as the top. if it is cold or just warm then u most likely have a blockage in the radiator. if so u can replace it or have it redone at radiator shop. if radiator is ok then look at heater core. when the engine is warm u should have heat. u can use the hose test here as well. the two smaller hoses that go into firewall to heater should be hot when using the heat if not then there is a blockage in heater core.. hope this helps

Car overheated now won't start

If you got it that hot then you have most likely blown the engine cylinder head gasket and have coolant in the cylinders. At this point I would look for a good repair shop or if the car is already in poor shape replace it if possible. You could end up with about a $3000.00 repair bill on this if you burnt the engine down..

My car overheats very easy.i can drive 1 exit on the highway and the temp goes up very fast. i dont know what it could be. there is always fluid in the reserve area and doesnt seem to be getting low or im...

COULD BE THERMOSTAT IF TOP RADIATOR HOSE IS NOT HOT AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE GOING TO WATER PUMP IS HOT THE THERMOSTAT STICKING PARTIALLY CLOSE.IF TOP HOSE IS HOT THE RADIATOR,ENGINE BLOCK HEATER CORE NEED FLUSHING OUT.IF WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE LEAKING REPLACE WATER PUMP, FAULTY WATER PUMP WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO OVER HEAT.REPLACE RADIATOR CAP MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50 / 50 MIX SOLUTION ANTIFREEZE AND WATER IN COOLANT SYSTEM. IF ALL LOOKS GOOD CHECK ENGINE OIL ON DIP STICK, IF OIL IN DIP STICK LOOK LIKE MILKSHAKE YOU HAVE BLOWED HEAD GASKET THAT WILL CAUSE ENGINE OVERHEATING WHILE DRIVING CAR IN SHORT DISTANCE AND ENGINE OVERHEATING.

Changed bad water pump and timing but car is still overheating causes

Overheating is not always caused by a bad water pump or bad engine firing timing.

The most common causes are:
  • faulty radiator cap: steam/water will be escaping from the caps when engine is hot or oveflow tank overflows or empty!
  • crack cylinder head gasket: check when engine is cold thru radiator cap hole for milky oil in water radiator or large bubbles in radiator water after starting engine. Also check if water steam comes out of exhaust.
  • cylinder head itself: same symtoms as for gasket above.
Hope it helps you find your problems.

My 1998 forester temp gauge is running hot (needle is completly off the gauge) All fluids seem to be fine but heater seems to cool down a bit as soon as I pull over on the highway

Dont over heat the engine to the point that it causes damage to the engine like blow a head gasket or worse warp a head. If the radiator is full and car is overheating start with replacing the thermostat ( it's a valve that regulates water flow through the engine if it goes bad water does not circulate through engine to cool it off.

92 camry 4 cylinder was running great, it got hot then shut down

If car went hot it could damage head gaskete and engine block causing it to crack. That result the compression. Loose the compression to be lost. Lost of compression will result engine to no start.

Overheating.

put your heater on and see if hot air comes out if not the heater core is probably clogged. you could get them to change it and its costly or bypass the heater core and just connect your coolant lines together which will mean no hot air. make sure you drain the coolant first. Or try to force flush the heater core to get it unclogged then after all that put coolant in. If thats no it, run a pressure test on your radiator cap and see if it falls between the proper specifications for a good cap. Right now my suzuki too is overheating and I'm gonna try and bypass the heater core.
