Buy a mechanical oil pressure universal test gage from a Snap-on or Mac tool dealer and remove the the oil light sending unit from the engine, then up up the mechanical test gage,u should have at least 15-20 PSI at idle minimum HOT ENGINE, if u have pressure within that spec then the oil pressure sender is defective, DON'T DRIVE THE TRUCK UNTIL U TEST IT, U WILL BURN OUT THE ENGINES MAIN AND ROD BEARINGS VERY QUICKLY.

1989 ,yes its over 20 yrs old and worn out by the sound of it ,could just be the oil light switch which has a plastic cover over it and this cover is full of oil throwing the oil light on .but i think its more likely its worn out ,if it is worn out then may i suggest a nice peugeot partner ,renault or a ford courier ,all diesel manual and will do 50+ mpg ,the opel van isnt bad either neither is the VW caddy .

i wouldnt spend any more money on such an old vehicle ,get a nice diesel manual van for work as i suggested ,yes you can have the pressure tested ,but if its low then its a rebuild job anyway the damage is already done ,you could change the oil and put a couple of cans of oil thickener in so you can trade it in against a nice diesel with a high MPG ,if their is no oil behind the plastic cover on the oil light switch then do what i have written ,snap on tools are too expensive to only use once as described the kit mentioned is in excess of well over 100euros .Also think of the savings you will make with a small diesel engine vehicle ,with this money saved on fuel you could afford to go to hawai or europe for a holiday .

2005 Mazda 6 oil light came on added oil light still on could this be the oil pump

The oil light means that the oil pressure is low. If the car is serviced regularly and the oil filter is not blocked, it will be the pump. Or the oil pressure sensor itself is faulty. Be very careful, driving a car with no oil pressure will kill your engine very quickly.

What causes the oil light to come on?

The oil light will come on orange if your oil level is low. The oil light will come on red if your oil pressure is low. The oil light will come on, then turn off if your oil level sensor needs replacing. Alex

Why is oil light blinking?

Oil light blinking usually indicated low oil pressure / viscosity. Probably either low on oil, incorrect oil weight, poor quality oil, or needs oil changed..........Mike

The oil light keep telling me that i need oil when i already did a oil change what could it be

If you definitely got to change the oil after the oil change counter reset and then went out and had to be either a faulty oil pressure sensor or oil pressure failure.

My oil light keeps coming on and i changed my oil and itstill comes on. there are no oil spots unde thecar or puddles of oil .

Several issues could exist:
Faulty light - get computer code reading no code good chance its a light/short
Oil pump low pressure test with external pressure meter
Oil pressure sending unit

Once you determine you have oil pressure is good then its a fair chance you have a bad sending unit otherwise its a bad oil pump. Replacing an oil pump is not hard if you ca get the pan off without lifting the motor, Otherwise this is a big job

Oil light stays on

You need to put the key on and push the gas pedal to the floor three times within five second to reset the oil life light. Some g.m.'s have a reset buttom in the fuse panel that needs to be pushed first and some don't.Check the owners manual under change oil for your specific year car.

Oil light

If the oil light is on it's one of 2 things: You have no oil pressure, or the sending unit (also known as the oil pressure switch) is defective and is reading no pressure when there actually is normal pressure. You should always assume it means no pressure, because driving it this way will ruin the engine.

Oil light

This is a low oil pressure light, have the engine oil pressure checked at a shop, if it is ok replace the oil pressure sending unit.
