My gas cap on my 2003 z71 pickup was stolen. a couple of days later my engine light came on. Could this be due to the cap being gone and the pressurization?

Turn off the check engine light off due to gas cap being off how best way

Yes the light will go back off. However it will take some time. The average vehicle will rerun the monitor checks every 10 key starts. The other thing you can do is disconnect the battery for a minute. But if no rush for an echeck then just be patient and it will go out.

Error code 340 & 457

  • P0340 - Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction.
  • P0457 - Evaporative emission control system leak detected (fuel filler cap loose/off)

There is a bulletin #0398 posted on 05/12/2003 for P0457 - Malfunction indicator lamp (mil) illumination with diagnostic trouble codes p0442, p0455, p0456, p0457, p1442 or check fuel cap lamp illuminated with diagnostic trouble code p0457.

I'd suggest checking with your local dealer, as it may be a fix that is covered by the dealer.

My check engine light is on along with a message in the odometer box saying check gas cap. i looked underneath and all hoses seem tight. ive replaced the cap but to no success. whats the best way to check...

You seemed to look everywhere but how about under the hood?what manufacture want to do is seperate
the check engine light from coming on due to a gas cap leak, you have at the gas tank a vent valve and in the engine area a purge valve, the most common problem besides a broken purge solenoid it self or wire and the vent solenoid and wire or canister problem is vacuum to the purge valve, its a small hose that breaks at the connection ,your hood diagram will point it out as a hose to a purge system just look at the hoses connection there is not too many there

Some body stolen the fuel gas cap frome my car,i drive 2 day w/out cap.when i see that im buy new gas cap,but tha chek engine come in on,what can i do to solve this problem?thanks

One of the problems that trigger a check engine light is either a faulty gas cap, gas cap not on all the way or no gas cap. Once you replace the gas cap you should be able to reset your check engine light or it may automatically adjust itself.

My check gas cap light has been coming on for about three weeks. I tried taking the cap off and on again, reset the light. About a week later it came on againa and I just reset it. Again and I reset it...

Take a look at the o-ring on your gas cap. If it is cracking or looks worn I would replace the cap. If it looks ok, try lubing it with a silicone grease.

The engine light is most likely coming on due to an EVAP code, due to the fuel cap. To find out for sure you would need to either take it to a shop and have them scan it, or purchase a scan tool of your own.

Service engine soon light comes on

Have you checked the gas cap to see if it is on tight? If you purchased gas in the last couple days it might be the solution. Tighten the cap and drive a couple days to see if the light goes off. If the cap is loose, you might need a new cap.

Check Engine Light Comes on Intermittently

The P0141 code points to the O2 sensor heater circuit. It could be that there is a short in the wiring to the O2 sensor or it could be that the O2 sensor heating element itself is bad. The code is for O2 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2. Bank 1 means its the O2 sensor connected to the exhaust pipe that runs to cylinder #1. Sensor 2 means that it is likely the O2 sensor after the catalytic converter on the same exhaust pipe.
