Question about Saab 9000

2 Answers

I have a 1987 Sabb 9000. I lost the key, so I went to the dealership to have a new one made. They sent out to have it laser cut according to the VIN. It doesn't work. What now?

Have the cuts check by the dealership if the codes match the cuts made. I think since the car is older than ten years the wear inside the lock cylinder is too severe so that is why the new key will not work.
I am a cetified locksmith so I do know what I am trying to explain to you

When you loose the keys you have to get a twice unit and a chip and then program them using the Saab tech2 tool. There are two different alarm remotes and chips. One is 1/4 X 1/4 X 1 inch long and the new style chip is actually built into the remote head. The easiest thing to do is to have a new key made by vin so you can use your existing locks and then buy the twice unit and chip. When ordering the key you must order a key that matches the type of chip you need.
-------------- The new key can be programmed by old key or by the TWICE UNIT tool.As you have lost the old key but you have made the new key ,but it will not work till its programmed but to program you need the twice unit. The problem isn't obtaining a key but programming the new key. Since you need the old key to perform a program, the new key is useless. You will now have to purchase a new alarm module (900.00) plus the labor to install and program it.
This module is called a TWICE unit. It is responsible for the anti-theft feature in your Saab. But ask the dealer to reset the key and then try. Many dealers have reset tool. After that reset the key works without any programming. But if he the dealer is not helping then you will require the above mentioned tools to do it. Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

I'm pretty sure that in 1987 there was no chip imbedded in the key. It's just a straight-up laser cut key. Can I remove and replace the whole steering column? How hard is it to remove the lock pin?

Lost key

To get a new key....you must take your ownership or pink slip to the dealer, he will be able to cut you a new key. If your key is one of the newer type with a chip in it then have the dealership set the new key with the chip to your Car or truck.

It must be a new car dealership for your type of car or truck. A key shop will not be able to cut you a new key if it must have a chip in it.

Not what you want to hear but the dealership will cut a nwe one with proof of ownership....registration and license to match. otherwise, you may be able to call in a locksmith who may be able to at least get you in the vehicle...maybe even cut a key...good luck

I lost my rav4 smart key. how can i get another one

You can call your local locksmith. They can make you one. Or you can go to Toyota service department and give them the VIN number. And proof of ownership and they will cut you a new key.

Lost my key to my jaguar 2003 x-type, where can i get a new one

the only place that will have the sort of equipment to cut you a new key (the key has to be cut according to the vin number of the car), is going to be the dealership. also the computer equipment needed to program the new key is most likely only avaliable at the dealer.

Key trouble

You'd have to go to a dealership for it, if you have no other keys. If your Passat is like my Audi A4, you have a laser cut key that is "different" than most keys. If you have no key for the car currently, you'll have to go to a dealer with your title and VIN number. They'll be able to make you a new one from the proper master key. If you have another key that you can use, you can buy a blank replacement on eBay for much less, and have a locksmith with laser-cutting equipment do the cut. Several people I know have paid around $70 for a new key at a dealer, whereas those who could supply a second key to use to make a new one were able to buy the key blank online and have it cut at a locksmith's for $10-15.
