2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup. I was hauling a trailer with a short in its harness. Blew 2 fuses on the truck panel. Replaced both fuses and still no tail or instrument cluster lights. I checked the headlight switch today and it is fine. All fuses in panel except the 5 a illumination fuse have power to them either with key off or key on.

Light green wire from fuse panel to H/L sw has 12 volts. The pink/rd wire to H/L switch has no power. I think that is supposed to come from panel to H/L switch to control the cluster or tail and should have 12v.

Havent checked rear harness of truck yet for shorts or melted wires.

Your going to have to verify the ground wires for damage also. A damaged ground will never blow a fuse, but a positive circuit will. I suspect a bad ground at this point.

  • superbike27 Aug 01, 2010

Whats got me stumped is the instrument cluster lights. they have nothing to do with tail lights and are on their own circuit. Thats why I checked the H/L switch.

Fuse 14 in the junction block may also be blown.

  • superbike27 Aug 01, 2010

Where is the junction block fuse #14 is in? Are you talking main fuse panel?

I just finished checking the harness from the cab connector behind the left front wheel back to the lights and all is fine back there no shorts.

The left tail light on my trailer doesnt work.the stop and turn signal works . is there a fuse for it? i have 2011 gmc sierra 1500

There is a tail lights fuse for the truck, but not for the trailer.
First, check that your left tail light on the truck is working, if not fix the problem (new bulb, bad contact, fuse).
Then the obvious suggestions regarding the trailer are: Check the tail light portion of the bulb to be sure it is not blown. If good (best to put in new one to be sure), then check the wiring from the front of the trailer all of the way to the non working bulb, including every connection and at any place it is secured to the trailer frame. If all is good with the trailer circuit and bulb, then check the truck's trailer connector, including any adapters. If by chance the truck is wired with a flat 4 wire harness the problem may be solved (but usually the blinkers are the problem). Modern trucks require a 5 wire harness which self adapts to the standard 4 wire trailer circuit. Check for dc power (12 volts) from the truck's female connector. One wire will be ground, others will be taillights (turn on headlights), brake lights (have someone press brake pedal), and blinkers (turn on switch and blinkers).

Tail lights stop working ive change fuse, bulbs, check relay it all check fine turn, brake, hazzards lights all work just the tail & inside cluster lights are not working please help.

The tail lights and dash lights are on two different circuits. The main link would be the headlight switch. I would check for voltage there first.

I bet you missed a fuse. Your tail lamps are protected by fuse #9 in the instrument panel fuse block. It is a 20 Amp fuse and is marked "PARK LPS".

It does sound as though the trailer connection is the source of the problem, check to see if the wiring has been resting on the exhaust pipe and melted through, shorting the wires. Also check if it is squashed or damaged anywhere. Failing this you may have to pull the trailer connector apart and see if the wires have come out inside and are touching, this can happen if the trailer connector is pulled hard.

Interior dash and running lights dont work but my signal and brake lights work else works

Look at fuse #18, a 15 amp fuse, in the fuse block. This fuse powers both the tail lights and instrument cluster lights. Usually both of these light systems are powered by the same fuse so when your cluster isn't lit up you'll know right away that your tail lights aren't working as it's not safe to drive without tail lights. Your brake, turn, and head lamps are powered by different circuits. Hope this helps and good luck!

Brake Lights do not work and hazard button is stuck

I could not tell you how many times people have brought their cars into my shop and tell me that they had already checked all fues and they are OK, then I check the car and find a blown fuse or a fuse that is completely missing.

Your dash (Instrument Cluster) illumination lights are powered by the "PARK LP" fuse in the underhood fuse panel - it is fuse number 37 and should be a 20 Amp fuse. If this fuse is blown, your Park lights on the exterior of the car will also not be working. If they are working and your dash lights are not, then the problem is probably in your headlamp switch.

Your Brake lights are powered by the "STOP LAMP" fuse in the instrument panel (IP) fuse block it is a 15 Amp fuse.

Your Hazzard lights are powered by the "HAZZARD" fuse in the (IP) also a 15 Ap fuse.

If both of these fuses are good, then the most likely problem with your brake and hazzard lamps is the multifunction (Turn Signal) switch.

What any of the above has to do with replacing your window regulators remains a mystery.

2003 Sienna tail lights don't work when headlights are on

Look under the dashboard, next to/above the park brake pedal, for the interior fuse box. It has a black plastic cover. Remove the TAIL fuse, and see if it is blown. This should get you fixed up. Hope this helps, and Thanks for choosing FixYa.
