Question about 2005 Mini Cooper

1 Answer

The battery died on my 2005 Mini Cooper S convertible. I have replaced the battery but now the rear windows and top won't go up. I have followed the reset procedure in the manual (hold down the two window buttons) to no avail. Any suggestions?

I found a link which may help.Your solution is on page 27 possibly. It is Adobe required. If you do not have it it is a free download with no issues.Acrobat Adobe. It says you can close the windows, sunroof, and convertible top by using the door lock.Close the door and hold the key in the locking position. It also says you can activate or deactivate this method somehow. Here is the link.Good luck!Let me know if you already tried this or it does not help.

Nice idea, but, it didn't work. The front windows -- which have been working -- went up, but, the rear windows and convertible top stayed put. By the way, I also checked the fuses and all seem to be intact.

    Any other thoughts?

Rats.I will do a little more research and see what I can do for you.Sorry :( All this technology and all it takes is a switch or who knows what.Have you tried to reset it more than once?I am pretty sure you probably have though.

Yes. I've tried many times. The owner's manual says to hold the window buttons down for just one second. I've also tried holding them down much longer.

Thanks for any other ideas you may come up with.

I found a couple of Mini forums,no help.I called a local Mini dealer and the technician said to do this.Push the window control switch which controls all the windows down, then up,then down, then everything should come up for you.It sounds different than what the manual said.I have no idea why they would misinform you for that situation. It may be up,down,up,down,up.My wife was on computer for a while after I received the solution but I think the first way is correct. If either one doesn't work, try the fuse but I would be REALLY surprised if the fuse was bad.Good luck!

No luck. I think I need to take it into the dealer for a fix. Thanks for trying.

None of my 2 rear windows open its a mini Cooper convertible 2005 , funny thing is that top still open just fine !

This could be caused by a blown fuse, or a pinched wire. Check your fuse box to confirm if there is a fuse for that section of the back windows. Since the roof could be is motorized it would work, but a fuse is usually what operated the windows. Good Luck.

How to fix mini Cooper convertible top after battery change

After a dead battery or a battery change the mini can "forget" the positions of the windows and flash an error code when attempting to raise or lower the top. The fix is to raise and lower the windows completely and then the top will raise and lower normally.

I hooked up the jumper cables wrong to a Mini Cooper 2005 and it wont start. What should I do?

load test the battery. Test the alternator with a multimeter, it should read between 13.3 and 14.6 volts dc. Test the alternator at idle and rev the engine to 2000 rpm. The multimeter probes are place on the battery terminals. Look for corrosion between the battery and the battery clamps. Baking soda cleans the corrosion.

Mini cooper 2005 convertible top wont retract on passengers side

take the cover off the arm on the conv. and you'll most likely see a broken retractor arm. If you pull both sides off you'll see how the functional one works and how the other isn't working properly. With a little ingenuity, you'll be able to patch it and get it working.

Hi, When i press the button to open the electric (convertable) roof it only starts to open on the left side, the right side is not even responding... Do you have any idea why or how this is...

More than likely the cable on the inside of the right mechanism snapped. To repair it, the entire mechanism needs replaced to the tune of upwards of $3000 USD. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. And even worse is there is no real way to check it without pulling the mechanism apart. I hope you find this information useful. You may wish to stalk the junkyards for one out of a junker. You can probably hook one of those up for about $300.00. You may also wish to look for the lift mechanism. Here is a place that has both, pretty reasonably priced. They could also help you to pinpoint the problem better based on you actual experience.

I borroweD this mini cooper convertible and can't figure out how to get the top down

The car must be stopped before the top will go down. Simply press ahd hold the button just above the rear-view mirror. If you are out of the car you can use the key just hold the unlock button and the windows will go down and top will open to the "sun roof" position...release the button and press and hold again to finish lowering the top.

Soft top wont open

Many's the most common:
1. the two latches on either side of your real shelf (Above the trunk (Boot) space. Unlatch and re-latch them firmly.
2. Make sure the rear shelf id down firmly Sometimes those switches don't engage.
3. (This one got me) If you had a dead battery or had battery disconnected for any reason, cycle all the windows up and down a couple of times then try the top.

I need to know where the battery is located on my mini cooper S convertable 2005

Most minis have battery fitted either in the boot or under rear seat
if in the boot then look under the carpet and you will find a black plastic cover and its under there
Or the same under the seat.

Nice to see you have brought a good English car.

The top on my 2005 mini cooper s will not go down .

often times this problem ends up needing a front sunroof section of the conv top replaced. The cable that drives the hooks to unlatch is most likely broken and that is currently the only fix. EXPENSIVE. Sorry
