More often, it indicates a bad coolant temperature or a wire issue to the sensor.

ECT ( engine coolant temperature ) sensor is also called CHT ( cylinder head temperature ) sensor.

1299 means the CHT cylinder head temp sensor has detected an overtemp concern and sent the vehicle into FMEM failure mode effects management. So this means you have a faulty misleading sensor or the vehicle is actually overheating. The sensor is located top front center of the engine.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

I have personally never seen mass air fuel sensor with this code.No doubt other problems might be bad head gasket, heater core or coil. However, i do not think that this code has anything to do with mass air fuel sensor.

    Good Luck!!

I am getting the codes p0320 and also the code p1299 the truck is shutting down when driving down the road sometimes will start right back up and sometimes you have to wait for a bit and then drive for...

The codes you are getting:

- Cylinder Head Over Temperature Protection Active Indicates an engine overheat condition was detected by the cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor. An FMEM Strategy called Fail-safe Cooling was activated to cool the engine. Engine cooling system concerns

Low engine coolant level
Base engine concerns

P0320 - Ignition Engine Speed Input Circuit Malfunction - The ignition engine speed sensor input signal to PCM is continuously monitored . P0320 indicates that two successive erratic profile ignition pickup ( PIP ) pulses have occurred

causes: loose wires / connectors , arching secondary ignition components ( coil , wires , + plugs ) , on board transmitter ( 2 - way radio )

This is the explanation for the error codes you are receiving, at least it is a good place to start looking for the problem. Hope this can help you.

Kind regards

P1299... watr bottle keeps emptying..

The definition for that code is p1299 Cylinder head over temperature protection active. If your overflow tank (water bottle) is emptying check the oil for water contamination (it will look milky) also look at the exhaust for excessive white smoke, you may have a bad head gasket and hopefully not a cracked or warped head. Does the engine run alright? Has it overheated?

Car runs rough and stalls. 03 ford focus code p1299

You have a cooling problem with this vehicle, what happens is that as soon as the engine is running too hot the PCM starts by switching some of the cylinders off to try and control the temperature but if you ignore this the PCM will start cutting out two cylinders at a time and restricting the RPM to 3000rpm only, called limp mode. This trouble code will be registered in the PCM under the code P2199
If you still ignore this the PCM will switch the engine off completely to avoid serious damage to the engine
Have a look at the coolant level, Radiator leaks, Water pump, thermostat, blocked radiator
Hope this will help you
