Question about 1998 Volvo V70

1 Answer

When turning right or left I hear a loud clunk, which I can feel, as tho the car is overcoming some tension and then releasing. I just replaced both front axles and the clunk remains. Lots of ps fluid coating bottom of car. Car is 1999 Volvo AWD XC V70 with 210,000 miles. Struts are one year old.

Either the top bearings on the struts or the lower track control arms ,remember that when the front struts are changed the original beariings are put back on

Clunking noise when you turn the steering wheel while driving

The noise will be either the universal joint on the steering column or a component in the steering rack or outer tie rod ends, get someone to sit in the car and move the wheel slightly left and right and have a look and you will be able to see and hear where the noise is coming from

Heard loud clunk while driving, now it wont move in any grear?

Your CV joint may have failed and and will need to be replaced. Inspect the left and right CV joints for any signs of damage. Cv joints are the left and right axle from the transmission to the left and right front wheels.

Makes loud screehing noise when stopping and turning left and right

I would have you brakes checked. Make sure hoses aren't getting pinched when turning and that the brake pads are not worn. If you hear clunking, then check tie rod ends.

Clunk sound when turning left in 2005 Chev Malibu

I have 3 2005 Malibus - 1 Maxx LT, 1 Sedan LT, and 1 Sedan LS. All three needed to have the steering rod replaced by 50K miles. You'd feel a muted clunk through the wheel when turning. The other light clunk issue I had with the Maxx was I hit a parking curb and it broke the lower radiator bracket. In certain bumps you'd feel a light clunk. A new $22 bracket fixed the issue and now I make sure I never pull too far into the spaces in the garage at work.

1991 Oldsmobile 88 Royale loud clunk when turning??

Ball joint, tie rod end or upper strut bearing. CV joints? Pulling to the left may be an alignment problem with front or rear tires. Get a four wheel alignment.
