Hello. Do not drive this vehicle until your brakes are repaired. It will have to be put up in a rack so the brake lines can all be inspected as it sounds like you have a bad line. You could experience a total brake failure with no further warning. J.

My car makes a coughing noise when I brake

Probably you have a bad vacuum hose, or connection to the Power brake chamber. Leak is causing extra air to mix with fuel and gives the ecu a headache. The brake chamber's diaphragm may also be tired and beginning to leak. You may be able to find leak at hose connections with a helper pressing brake and you spraying water or rubbing alcohala on all vacum hoses to and from the Brake chamber and the engine. When changes in engine speed and location of spray are matched, That should reveal the leak location. Repeat untill all leaks have been repaired

1996 Buick Park Avenue Ultra making a hissing noise when I press Brake Pedal. Have to Press super hard to stop or slow down.

Sounds like a possible air pocket in the braking system. Do you know how the bleed the brakes? They may need to be bled. Also, if you've added brake fluid recently, and didn't put the cap back on, it could create a suction. Another note is to check the cap to the brake fluid reservoir. It's rare, but, it could be bad.

Why is the brake pedal stiff?

You may have lost you brake assist. Look for any disconnected or broken hoses and vacuum leaks especially the one going to the brake booster. make sure that the check valve is good it should allow air through in one direction but not the other. if all checks out good apply vacuum to the power brake booster and make sure it hold if not replace the power brake booster.

96' Chevy K1500 Brakes are hard to press, but u hear a lot of air coming out, if i hold the brakes down for too long the truck cuts off.

It sounds like a problem with the brake booster, the air diaphragm that gives you power brakes. It is located right behind the brake master cylinder and mounted to the firewall.
Check the large vacuum hose to it for leaks. If the air is coming out of the unit itself, it will need replacing.
It will stop the engine because with a large air leak, the engine just sucks in way too much air. Hard brakes are also an indication that the booster is not working right. But check the hose first for leaking.
Good luck.

Sounds like air is leaking behind the brake pedal

fairly normal...some are louder than others
but if the brakes work you will be OK

the air escaping is what allows the booster to function because it needs atmospheric pressure to boost the pedal application

I've replaced many of these for a customer only to find the replacement makes a worse noise!

Our S80 Vovlo, as the vehicle is ruuning, I hear a air leakcoming from the brake patel area, as I touch the patel the noises stop and as I let out the brake patel, the air leake strat again, have any

it sounds like the vacuum pipe to the break servo is leaking or it could be the servo diaphragm broken hence you hear the noise in the car, if the brakes are harder to press its most likely to be the servo unit more than the pipe i would also expect you to having a ideling problem due to the extra air in the intake system. hope this helps regards John
