Have you tried to start it with your foot on the gas about 30 %. My question is are you sure its not just a issue with maintaining an idle. This would indicate a bad idle air control valve. Unless you have some readings to go on like fuel pressure and data for the maf and various sensors all we can do is guess also. It may be you have a failed computer but without any testing or data its anyones guess.

If you have checked the fuel pump relay and you know the pump is getting power, it may have failed and may have to be replaced.

MY 1997 GMC sierra 2500 diesel stalls. you can be doing 70mph and it stalls sometimes restarts right away sometimes not.. You can be driving around town and it stalls also. sometimes it restarts right...

Purchased a new gray Standyne Fuel Solenoid Driver kit with heat sink and extended wire harness. Mounted on left fender well and was able to do the work myself in about an hour. No need for injector pump work. Solved stalling issues and it starts up easier as well. These are all over ebay. Very common issue with this engine, and the GMC knuckleheads knew about it and didn't do anything to educate dealerships on a permanant fix.

Have a 1997 gmc k1500,5.7liter tbi.starts fine runs a few min.then stalls, have no codes coming up on the scanner, fuel pump does hum when you turn key on,changed fuel filter, checked dist cap and wires,dont...

Check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, the valve is along the fuel line by the distributor cap and there should be 62 to 65 PSI. Anything different will give you a not start or run, The other things too that would stall the engine would be a faulty oil pressure sending unit, anything less then 4 psi will shut the engine down and a faulty ignition module will do this too. Once the module heats up it fails, it's common for moisture to develop in the distributor and corrosion occurs to the wires leading to the module. Start with the simple and check the fuel pressure and then to the gauges, like the oil and then the ignition module. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you resolve the issues to your GMC.

Try to prime the engine with fuel thru the throtle body before u crank the engine over if it starts u have a fuel delivery problem. may be possible clogged injectors or fuel filter. or a weak fuel pump.

Stalling

Possibly faulty ignition module is the problem, stalls when engine is hot when you sit for a while it cools off and runs again until it heats up again, those are usually the symptoms of a bad ignition module and after a while it may give out all together and not run at all, usually if the module is at fault it shuts down the fuel pump so the engine don't load up with fuel, do to when engine continuously cranks over the injectors never stop squirting fuel and flood the engine do to lack of spark which is produced by the module, this could possibly be your problem.
