Compressor is just below the engine . you can see two AC pipes going into it just near to exhaust. it looks like a motor and condensor is just infront of the radiator and it looks like a radiator but it is thin and AC pipes are attached to it.

The compressor in my 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 4x4 turns on and off while parked. It blows very cold air while driving, but blows hot and cold air while parked. To hot to sit in the truck while...

the ac system needs air through the condenser ( radiator bit in front of the radiator) to operate correctly. IT it has no air then the compressed gas is to hot and will not turn to liquid and so the high pressure switch turns of the ac compressor. No problem when you are moving as road speed provides the air flow. Get an electric fan and have it installed before the condenser and connect it to the ac compressor circuit so that it is running all the time you have the ac compressor running. not the local mechanic. When dealing with ac systems the best people to take it to is an accredited ac specialist shop

Blows cold when first started and then blowes warm

I would replace the AC compressor cycling switch it may be sticking have seen it a number of times. The switch is located in the receiver dryer on the passenger side of the engine compartment. See picture below.

If this isn't the problem the AC compressor relay may also cause this, flip a coin.

When the compressor kicks on, is the air from the vents blowing cold? If the air isn't blowing cold, then your problem could be that you may have water in the system. I had a '93 Chevy Z71 that wouldn't blow cold and thats what my problem was. System needs to be evacuated and refilled. Good luck bro.

A/C does not blow cold air. I did refill with 134 refrigerant, but did not help. I don't hear the compressor switch on at all. Will I need to replace the whole unit.

Hi,
Better check the A/C compressor connector, harness, and relay! test the connector by using a simple 12v light, turn on the A/C system, connect the light to the compressor terminal, and ground the body of the bulb, it light up! If not, relay and fuse will be at fault! If it lights up, the compressors magnetic clutch should be replace!
Hope that helps u out!

Air conditioner light inside truck comes on but blows only regular air.. not cold at all

It isn't blowing AC at all, just air. See if your compressor is turning with the belts when the system is engaged. Not just the pully but the compressor.

hmmm maybe a bad compressor bearly giving what it has left till it dies? if your getting cold air then there is not freon leak i would think. its gonna cost you. you gotta take it in to some pros. ac stuff is never simple unless its low on freon. are you hearing a loud scratchy sound while its on coming from the compressor?

The AC stops blowing air for a while and then re-start working normaly.

Have you noticed that the AC quits blowing cold air when you are heavy on the throttle, or climbing a hill? Does it return to blowing cold air when you let back off the throttle and relieve the load from the engine?

If you answered YES to those questions, your AC is operating normally. AC compressors take quite a bit of power from the engine to operate. In vehicles with smaller engines, the AC compressor will disengage when there is a heavy demand for power placed on the engine, and you will not get cold air. When that demand is gone, it re-engages power to the AC compressor.
