most starters are the same on chevy 350s should bolt right up, if you have to change torque converter, but most chevy 350 flywheels are universal. that's the good thing about a chevy most everything 350 smallblock bolts right up. hope this helps
to change front pump seal and bushing you have to remove the transmission and remove the pump for disassembly for the bushing. you are very near a overhaul look in oil pan for metal dust or piece of metal, brass
My first thought would be a vacuum leak in one of the hoses. Rubber hoses get brittle with age and even a small crack in a hose may cause surging. Happened to me in a Lumina.
either the intake is sucking oil from the bottom of the manifold, very common, other is the rings are gone, also very common,lighterr oil usage is a valve stem seal issue. the valves are hydraulic and unless u are installing new rocker arms require no adjustment.
