Question about 1995 Saturn Sl

1 Answer

Car won't start, cranks but doen't start.

Yesterday when I started it up the RPM's would go up passed 2000 and stay there for a few seconds then drop to normal. It did this 3 times. Also seemed a little goosey when driving. Today it won't start at all just cranks.

Engine cranks for 8-10 seconds before it starts when engine is warm

you must RUN the SCANNER/computer for better diagnostic and fix it. YOu can have some faulty like: PCM+BCM+ignition coil, sensor, etc. see the diagram attached.

When i start the car the engine racces to 2500 rpm why?

This is normal idle control strategy, it races up to keep the engine from stalling out until it stabilizes, if it doesn't drop back to normal idle speed of about 600 RPM after a few seconds (longer on cold start up) then you need to have the electronics tested to see what the problem is.

My car was running fine yesterday and this morning it didn't start. got a new battery, replaced the oil and checked the fuses. everything is fine but car still won't start. suggestions, please

Check for spark and fuel. When you turn the key on you should hear the fuel pump in the tank for a few seconds till the pressure builds up. When you crank the engine there should be spark at the plugs.

Spark IS fire, I guess you mean it HAS spark, but the engine wont run? Make sure the fuel pump "inertia" switch is OK. even slamming a door can trip it off. then you will have NO fuel pressure. Its in the left side, trunk area.
