Sounds like you need a new cap may be hair line crack and it may need to replace rotor and spark plug wires.

Diagram or picture of where the spark plug wires go into the distributer on a engine number 318-1

For this you have to determine when the #1 cylinder is at TDC (Top Dead Center) - when it would be firing. Take the distributor cap off and look at the rotor - it would be pointing at the #1 spark plug wire on the distributor. The wires would be connected it order around the distributor cap starting at 1. The sequence is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 in a clockwise fashion.

89 gmc jimmy 5.7L it gets spark from coil to distributer but not from distributer to motor. Spark plugs and wires are brand new, module is fine, cap and rotor is fine.

if im correct in saying this, i think there is a small cylindrical looking piece with one wire comming out from the front in the distributer under the distributer cap next to the points this is could a condenser you could try changing this for a new one all so check the gape your points make if to small you will get no spark as well if to big

Where is the coil pack on the engine?

follow your spark plug wires from the spark plug to where they plug into. That will be your coil pack. It's not like the old days where your plug wires plugged into a distributer cap. Your coil pack is your distributer cap. I hope this helpes and wish I had a picture for you but if you follow those wires it should be no problem. Good luck.

How to replace distributer cap and rotor button on 96 Acura TL ?

Locate the distributer cap. Mark all your spark plug wires with some tape and number system so they go back in the same position (on the new cap). Remove the spark plug wires from the old cap (after marking them) and lay them to the side. Remove the 2 Torx or Phillips screws from the cap. Lift the cap up and off. The rotor will be directly under the cap. Lift it up and off. This may take a little rocking motion while pulling on it to get it off. Align the new rotor on the shaft and push it on firmly. Place the new cap on and install the 2 screws removed earlier. Install the plug wires on the cap in the order they come off. Ensure the wires are pushed in firmly.
