Water pump may be broken or Leaking coolent from radiator, Both are easy to spot, Try look around the engine and the radiator for leaks And around the crank case, Its more common for water pumps to go first.

Thanks for the reply. I have read that the water pumps on the 2.5's have plastic impellers. whats the best way to diagnose for possible broken impeller (other than removing it) if possible?

You may be best removing it to be sure there are no cracks or anything that you can't see fully without removing it, You could place Cooking flour around it, And Run engine to find out where leak is coming from that is something i have done many times it saved me having to take apart a load of things to find a small leak.

I used to a Ford Technician but mostly diesel. Thanks for the info. One last thing, I can't recall but do the contours have issues with the cooling fans as well?

Not really some do some don't but the problems are normally sensors going wrong which causes fan not to kick in but until you notice very high engine temperature and fan doesn't kick in the inspect the sensors for the engine temp.

I have an issue with a 98 ford contour v6. all the lights pulse when the alternator is charging above idle. alt has been replaced.checked the fuse at rear of engine.any ideas about this problem.

This is usually caused by a failing regulator within the alternator, however, it would be a good idea to also check all engine to chassis grounding straps. Thank you.

98 ford contour 2.5- a loud roar from front drivers side of car

This sounding like an Idler bearing problem, Sounds like the idler bearing that supports your belt is either loose or needs replading. I say this because when you get the RPMs up on the motor the noise should almost disappear?

1995 Ford contour SE V6. In the shop replacing engine,

The most common failed start is ignition spark, usually forgot to hook it up, this is controlled by the ignition module and the crank sensor, second most common is fuel. Has your mechanic fixed it yet? if not check the three basics- air-fuel-fire, one them is missing.

Overheating and no hot air from heater.

Leave rad cap off when starting from cold, turn heater(not defrost) on, and top up coolant in rad as you go, to about an inch or 2 from top of rad. Let engine run with cap off until your rad fan comes on & off 3 or 4 times. Every once in a while, rev engine slightly for 5-10 seconds to help bleed air out faster. After about 3 or 4th time fan comes on, you should be o.k. to put cap back on all the way & fill bottle to proper level. Heat should be there now. Give it a try & let me know how it goes.
