My 2007 Kia Rio is ten years old and has only 25,000 miles on it. Is it time to change the timing belt based on age, not mileage

Kia recommends ( california) checking at 60,000miles and 90,000miles and changing at 105,000miles
all other states and up to 2009 kia recommends replacement every 60,000miles
models from 2010 recommends every 60,000 miles or 72 months which ever occurs first
the timing belt is subject to dust ,age , grime and oil from cam, crank and hydraulic tension leaks so It would be advisable to consider changing it
rubber ages and cracks and a check by an accredited service shop would be a prudent move and if it is recommended to change the belt consider the advice

When should i change the timing belt?

Toyota recommends replacement every 90,000 miles or 72 months, whichever occurs first. This is an interference engine which piston to valve damage will occur due to timing belt failure. Hope this was very helpful.

on any auto about 50,000 miles is average it's cheaper to replace the belt then an engine. when the belt breaks most engines will bend the valves and toyotas are good for that

At what mileage do you change a timing belt in a 2007 sonata, 99% of mileage is highway.

Most car manufacturers recommend replacing timing belts after 60,000 miles. I have seen cars go 200,000 on a timing belt. But I wouldn't recommend that. Personally, that Max I would go, even if 99% of your driving is highway, is 80,000 miles. I'm not 100% sure about the sonata, but if it is front wheel drive and your replacing the timing belt, think about replacing the water pump at the same time. That is always good practice to remember.

Timing belt replacement

The timing belt on this car should done based on which ever comes first recommended mileage or time basis. If this car has the 2.5 litter Engine I would recommend changing it ASAP. The 2.5L engine is What is referred to as an interference engine which means that if the timing belt breaks the pistons will slap the valves rendering the engine useless. Keep in mind a timing belt is made only of rubber and nylon cord it is not uncommon for them to fail before the recommended service intervel

How often do I have to change the timing belt

On the 2L (4 cylinder) engine it is recommended to inspect the belt at 37200 miles and replace the belt at 56000 miles.

On the 2.7L (V6) it is recommended to replace the belt at 60000 miles.

And, both these engines are interference engines (meaning if they break a belt, pistons hit and bend valves) which is not a pretty sight...
