Question about 2000 Chevrolet 3500

2 Answers

2002 chevy 3500 van temper mental problem has been happening for approx. 4 years. Turns over fires up for approx 1-2 seconds and dies. For past 4 years if I waited for a couple of minutes and tried again it would always start. The last several months has been a nightmare, been stranded several times had to tow, local dealer has worked on it. Replaced the ignition sleeve ?? on the column, the security sensor, and the BCM computer module, I personally replaced the fuel pump 2 years ago(it was actually the fuel pump that was the problem at that point). Have always noticed the security light come on on my dash periodically, always figured it had something to do with the anti theft or something. The code I know by heart is P1679 when they plug into the computer. The dealer and I are working together to try to resolve the problem but just yesterday after the last guess with the BCM computer it did the same thing,no start. Came back to the vehicle approx. 18 hours later and it started right up. HELP!!! Ready to **** a wrist....

Quick thought may be a coolant temp sensor not reading correctly for the computer it wont throw a code and will make it hard to start usually bout 25 bucks or less but kinda works like the choke for this app.

i would check your ignition system. you would need a meter for this but look for broke or loose connections. if it was a fuel problem i dont think it would just start up after 20 minutes. or you might try your ignition switch. if its shorting or something then ya well it would cut your engine off real quick

Yes it sounds like a security system problem. Does the new column have pass key? You are leaving the key on until the security light stops flashing? The light is flashing for 10 minutes?

I was driving and the van just died. it still turns over just doesn't fire. i'm guessing it lost spark or gas. nothing happened, no warning signs. it just died. fuel pump is 1.5 years old. whats a fast...

Have someone turn the key on while you have you ear close to the fuel tank. You should hear a 1-3 second whirr as the pump builds up pressure. If no sound you can tap on the tank with a rubber or dead blow hammer to see if the pump is stuck. This trick will only work so many times before complete failure! Fords also had a fuel pump shut off switch, after Pintos started blowing up. Most cars had them in the trunk under the plastic covers. I'm not sure on the vans. Look for a small black box with 2 wires near the tank on the inside of the van. You can cut out the switch and tie the wires together with a wire nut and black tape or shrink tube to bypass the switch.

Hello we just purchased a 2002 Dodge Ram 3500 16 passanger Van. It has 158000 miles. We put gas into it as it was out and was sitting for a year. It sounds like it wants to start but will not. My husband...

If it sat for a year and the gas in the tank dried up the pump is gummed up and needs to be cleaned. If it had fuel injection the injectors will have the same problem. You may be asking how that applies to your question. There is a safety built into the system that will prevent the coil from firing if a problem is detected in the fuel pump or if the injectors don't pressurize.

In my opinion it is caused by having too little gas in the tank. You are not suppose to run it it with that little gas anyways because it is bad for your car since all the contaminants can be sucked into the injectors and cause all kinds of problem.
