Question about 2003 Pontiac Sunfire

1 Answer

2003 Pontiac Sunfire - When I turn the ignition on the dash buzzes, kind of like an alarm or a loud whirring noise. The gauges do not come up right away. If I leave it for a second or 2 it will sputter itself out and the gauges do come up. Other times it doesn't do this at all. It has just started last night. I have been able to start the car fine and drive fine no engine lights etc when the car is running and driving. I did check all the fuses on the side of the dash. I did notice what looks like a relay there also but I am not sure about testing that or even if it could be part of the problem.

The problem could be a power supply module that supplies various voltages to the instrument panel (IPC). If it is acting up, it can make this buzzing noise. If that is it, it will eventually fail and the IPC gauges will stop working.

SOURCE: check gauges light

Possible bad guage, bad wiring, or bad sending unit. Check each one independently of each other, start with wiring first, then sending unit.

I had the same problem. Goodwrench looked at my car for 2 hours could not figure it out. Then they unpluged the body control module and plugged it back in and presto, problem solved.

Starter solenoid , or wire that leads to it.

Also , if standard transmission , may be the switch on clutch pedal is intermitant.

Engine won't turn over unless it thinks you have your foot on the clutch.

I was driving down the highway in my 2003 pontiac sunfire and it was making a knocking noise and it shut off and know it want start

If it was a loud hammering knocking kind of noise and it just stopped dead in its tracks, you most likely threw a connecting rod. Try turning the crankshaft by hand (with the appropriate size socket and bar on the crankshaft nut) if you can't budge it, the engine is probably toast.

Car turns over but no gauges turn on not even gauge lights, car won't start, 2003 Pontiac sunfire, could it be ignition relay and where would it be located

Here is what should happen: Turn the key "ON" position, this is called primary circuit. do not start, all your cluster gauges should come on. Now crank it, this is called your secondary circuit if it won't start and your cluster gauges don't work, yes, your problem is your ignition switch other manufacturer calls it relay but works on same principles.

Alarm not chirping dash not working

The problem is in the ignition cylinder lock.
The body control module (BCM) is what controls the theft deterrent system on the 2000 Pontiac Sunfire.
It can be reprogrammed, but is complex to do.

Could be the gauge on the dash or the sending unit in the tank.

My Sunfire makes a loud noise from the front right side when I make a left hand turn. Whats the problem?

Usually, a loud clicking noise is indicative of a bad axle. You could also have a loose/damaged wheel bearing.

2003 Pontiac Sunfire died on me, how/why?

If you hear a loud clank when you try to start it, but nothing turns, that is the starter trying to turn the engine, but the engine is locked up. If the timing chain/belt jumped, the engine would still spin.

2003 pontiac sunfire, key in ignition nothing. tried jumping, nothing. Left for help, came back car started right up 4 or 5 times, Now nothing. Why? ty, Sue

Sounds like a short in the ignition switch. Next time it does it, try shaking and turning the steering wheel while you're turning the key to start. If this doesn't work, try cycling the switch on and off several times. Chances are, this is your problem.

2003 pontiac sunfire gauges don t work. everything was fine, unhooked the battery to clean the connectors and now the gauges won't work.

the fuse pannel on the left side of the dash pull cover off and look at the diagram on the panel cover look for cluster its a 10 amp fuse. make sure your car is turned off pull out that fuse and replace it with a new one the old fuse will look like there is nothing wrong with it but it is faulty. then turn your car on and it should work just as it did before you pulled out your battery hope this solved your issue
