If you are getting 12 volts when the engine is running the alternator is NOT good it should be between 13.8 & 14.3 volts when the engine is running if not the alternator or the voltage regulator is faulty......hope this helps.....cheers

1998nissan sendra doesn't charge but the battery light goes off when i start the engine when I remove bartery terminal engine stop running

A 98 still has a computer so with out power it will die my guess is corroded wires first use a multi meter and check for voltage on the terminal on the alternater it should show 13 to 14.5 volts D/C then check the battery see if it has 13 to 14 volts if yes it is charging if the altenater show 13 to 14 it is charging if the voltage is 11 to 12 or lower it is just reading the battery and you need a alternater if the aliternater is good and the battery is not charging it is either the power wire or ground you can use jumper cables to check jump from the post on the alternater to positive battery by its self if this fixes it it is the power wire if not unhook the positive and then connect the ground thermal to the engine block and see if that fixes it if not do both you will see the problem good luck

My Chrysler 300 won't start. Problem is not battery or fuses. Not getting 12 volts to 5 amp fuse (fuse is good) for control voltage to starter relay. Applied 12 volts to fuse socket with ignition s

PLease, check if the check engine light lit up when you turn the switch, if it doesn't lit up, your EMC (computer) is not getting any electricity. And that could be the reason that you the fuses are OK but it won't start.

97 dodge caravan 3.3L alternater

sounds like a alternater problem. with car off battery voltage should be at least 12.6 or better. less than 12 volts battery is bad. when running at battery, voltage should be at least 13.5 to 14.2 or better. take negative battery cable off while running, if car dies its the alternater. Good-Day! you can take alt, to any auto parts store to get it tested. advance, auto zone, etc.

30amp auto shutdown fuse blows is it alternater

The ASD relay supplies battery voltage (12+ volts) to the fuel injectors and ignition coil(s). With certain emissions packages it also supplies 12-volts to the oxygen sensor heating elements. The Fuel Pump Relay is a separate relay controlled by the ASD relay input to the PCM. Fuse #12 (10amp) provides 12 volts to the coil side of both the relays and the ignition switch. Fuse #6 (30 amps) supplies 12 volts to the output side of the relay. Fuse #16 (15 amp) from the relay output to the Oxygen Sensors and Fuse #26 (15 amp) relay output to the PCM. Fuse #24 (20 amp) is Fuel pump relay output to fuel pump. Fuse #19 (10 amp) supplies 12 volts direct to the PCM.
look for burned or melted wires in the offending circuit.
sounds like you wiggled a wire while installing new relay.

Charge at idle only

Your alternator is faulty. A properly working alternator produces 13.5 to 14.5 volts at idle and raised rpm's. The battery itself is 12 volts and a raised rpm demands more electrical power, therefore your drop.

I have a2001 Saturn SL and the battery light came on,Ireplaced the battery and had the Alternater checked but the battery light stays on. Advance Auto Parts said the alternater is not chargeing

Battery light usually means the alternator is not charging, get yourself a multimeter, select Volts, put red probe on positive and black probe on negative while the car is running, it should read above 13 Volts, not higher than high 14s, if it reads 12 volts or lower while engine is running than your charging system, alternator mainly, needs attention, any decent mechanic can check this in 2 minutes.

Complete loss of electrical power

test battery if voltage is 13 volts or better check positive and negative cable for clean good conections check in line fusible link by starter on positive cable if all good remove starter with solenoid take to parts store and have it checked solenoid may be bad. if all is good check main fuse usually under hood . If battery voltage is not 13 volts or better have alternater tested have battery load tested after chargeing.

Manula battery charger meter is not moving, how can i tell if battery is charging?

You will need an electrical meter that reads volts DC.Turn on the vehicle and probe the battery terminals. The reading should be between 13.2 to 14 volts (approx).Anything around 12 volts indicates an alternater problem,or bad ground.

Battery light will not go off. Battery is charged and we replaced the alternater.

Put a volt meter on the battery and start the vehicle, see if the alternator is charging to the battery,it should read 14.25 volts with all lights and blower off,and should not be less than 13.75 volts, with headlights on,and ac on high blower motor,it should read 13.65 volts,to 14.25 volts. Also check all fuses to make sure they are not blown, and make sure the large wire on the alternator shows 12 volts or more with the key off.If this wire does not show voltage,or less than battery voltage(12 volts) then that wire is not connecting to the battery positive side.

Rpm goes up and down when fan turned on

Sounds like the alternater. It is not putting out enough out put.Check with a volt meter conneted to the battery. It should read about 13.75 to 14.25.My guess it is only puting out about 12.5 to 13 volts.Check the battery terminals for a good connection.Be sure the cable ends are shiney and the battery contacts are shiney also.Warning, some new vehicles will loose computer memory when disconnecting the battery,so have some kind of 12 volts to plug into the cig. lighter(if the cig lighter works with key off). This will keep computer memery in tact. After you have done this make sure the alternator has the out put of 13.75 to 14.25 volts while engine is running. With key off,it should read at the battery at least,12.25 to 12.5 volts. If the alternater is not puting out these volts, then replace it.The vehicle can not operate with low voltage, and if you turn something on,such as the blower motor,or ac,or head lights, they draw a lot of amps. This will make the engine stall.I hope this was some help.Let me know if it was.
