Question about 1998 Volkswagen Jetta

I'm trying to pass emission testing but their computer won't register with my care. Also the check engine light DOESN'T come on.

What year make model? first check if someone has removed the engine light bulb ... i hate to tell you but it sounds like your car is a accident re-built vehicle, and the person who fixed it parted it together, hence the computer wont connect to it

Your vehicle needs to relearn itself, and run tests on the emissions equipment.

Your car is a rolling smog machine. The law requires that the computer test ALL of the emissions parts regularly.
Items such as engine sensors and misfire counters can easily be checked by virtue of the engine running. But SOME components aren't computer components. So to test them the car must be driven for a period of time, in a certain manner so that the computer can test them (fuel cap, catalytic converter, EGR valve, etc.).

When you disconnect the battery, the computer loses the results of the last test (pass or fail) and registers a "not ready" status during the test.

Most of the techs can manage to clear nearly all of the MONITORS in less than 10 miles or so. To see how this is done, do a "Google" for OBD II DRIVE CYCLE, and read the procedure.
If you are unfamiliar with this protocol, simply drive your car for 50-100 miles or so, but not all at one time. It needs some cold starts, some warm-up time, some stop and go and some easy freeway cruising. Then take it back for re-test.

Reset check engine light


The light could be blinking because you haven't driven it enough for it to register. Drive it for awhile and check again. If the light still blinks, you will need to know what code it has.

I have a check engine light with a code P0013: cam shaft circut. Will this pass an emissions test?


Most probably the system will not pass the emission test as it is related to air and fuel supply system. The problem relates high and low voltage supply to cam circuit. If high voltage is supplied the light will come on and you may not be able to pass the emission test.

2004 Sebring failed the emissions testing


Probably not a cheap fix.
The car will not pass the test if the light is on during the test.
The light is on when the computer has a problem that will affect emissions or performance.
You would need to have the computer scanned for trouble codes then fix the problem. Once the problem is fixed and the code is erased, the light should stay off.

Not enough data in computer for emissions testing


Has the battery been disconnected, or has it gone dead? Every time the battery is disconnected, all trouble codes are cleared, the check engine light is turned off, and all system monitors are reset. For the monitors to get back to a 'ready' status, the vehicle needs to go through one or more (sometimes quite a few) drive cycles.
When you go to the emission station, they check for codes, AND also check to see how many of your monitors are in a 'ready' status. (This keeps people from disconnecting the battery, and thus clearing any trouble codes, in order to pass emission tests).
If you have not disconnected your battery for a while, but the monitors are still not showing 'ready', you need to have a qualified shop check out your computer and other electronic systems.

1999 volvo wagon won't pass emissions - check engine light doesn't come on, and error code P0600


P0600 is the loss of serial communication link. Generally this is a problem with the wiring in the OBD-II or between the ECU and the connector. Of these is a fault in the ECU. Do you recive any other codes?

Will not pass emissions test


the light is an emissions code in there sometimes its a oxygen sensor or the egr valve gets clogged in hondas...you need to retrieve the code to narrow the problem down
