Remove the ignition module in the distributor, and have the auto parts store check it for you,if it is not bad, then the crankshaft sensor will more than likely be at fault.NAPA auto parts can d this for you,and if it checks bad,you can purchase one there.

Wont start

Did you mean starting fluid or a full tank of gas ?
V6 vortec engines require 60psi of fuel pressure or more to run.
You may need to check the fuel pressure with a gauge.

It can take 70psi to start a vortec engine cold. It should start on starting fluid tho.
You might want to look at a couple of spark plugs to see if they are in good enough condition to run. The spark could be weak under compression if the plugs are worn.

I have a 1997 GMC Jimmy with a 4.3L Vortec V6. It will turn over but won't start. It's getting fire and fuel. All the dash lights come on when the ignition is turned on and you can hear the fuel...

On the vortec engines they require 56 pounds of fuel pressure to start a few pounds shy of that you have a dead vortec you will need a fuel pressure guage to verify

if you have checked for spark at the spark plug end of the wire and it was not an sporadic, then you need to check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail reed valve,it should be at least 50psi ti start an engine thru the injectors
