They didn't use a modulator on 96 they quit back in about 92.that should be fully electronic.

I think this is an electronic trans with no modulator. Overdrive is really not a gear but rather torque converter lockup. Torque converter may have completely failed.

Where is the transmission modulator valve on a 1996 ford explorer v6


It is located on the right side of the transmission usually. Just in front of the passenger side floor pan on the side of the transmission case. You will have to run it up on ramps to get to it. As usual take all safety precautions and block the wheels real good. All 4 if possible. Good Luck.

Purge system as brakes 96 explorer?


If you have ABS you will need a scanner to open and close the valves when bleeding the brakes. You cant do this on your own. Now if the ABS and brake light are on you prabably need the ABS control module rebuilt. It got toasted.

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0443 indicates a failure in the EVAP canister purge valve circuit.
Possible causes:
  • VPWR circuit open.
  • EVAP canister purge valve circuit open.
  • EVAP canister purge valve circuit shorted to PWR GND.
  • EVAP canister purge valve circuit shorted to VPWR.
  • Damaged EVAP canister purge valve.
  • Damaged PCM.
