The Chevrolet Cobalt is available as a coupe or sedan and comes in four trim levels: XFE, LS, LT and SS. The XFE (extra fuel economy) is pretty bare bones, as air-conditioning is unavailable and only a manual transmission can be had.http://www.chevyreview.net/2010-chevrole...

You may have overcharged it. You shouldn't add refrigerant to the system without gauges to monitor the pressure levels. It's possible they are now too high causing the compressor to cycle on and off. It's also normal under some conditions for the compressor to cycle on and off as long as the air coming out the vents is cold.

SOURCE: 1995 z-28. air conditioner compressor won't kick

Your A/C pressure switch may have gone bad or the wire harness to it may have gone bad. The switch is along the low pressure line or on the A/C Accumulator ( looks like a silver canister) , Unplug the wire and you can jump it there and see if the clutch comes on, if it does try spreading the two tabs apart on the switch and clipping the wire back on. If it does not come back on you need to replace the switch, you can do it with out loosing to much R134A. Just got to be quick when you  remove the old one and placing the new one. The low side should have a reading of 30PSI to 50PSI and the high side should have 150PSI to 200PSI. Any other reading will give you poor A/C performance. Good luck and hope this helps.

SOURCE: Air Conditioner works intermittently

It could be your low pressure cycle switch is going bad. Check the connection to the switch and it's is located on the A/C Accumulator. The other thing to check is the A/C relay and that is located in the glove box. There is a panel in the glove box that say's relay, there is three relays in there and one of the out side relay's out of the three is the A/C. can not remember which one it is. The middle relay is the fuel pump and the other one is the third break light. Switch the two out side relays and see if your A/C get's better. the other thing too is if the R134a is just a little low, and needs to be topped off. Good luck and hope this helps. if your going to try to recharge the A/C system your self, keep in mind not to over charge.

First thing is have the AC charge checked by a shop, if that is OK then the AC compressor low side pressure switch may be defective or the compressor relay is defective.

My 2006 impala blows air, but it is not cold at all. What could be the problem?

I would recommend that you raise the hood, locate the air conditioner compressor, turn on the ac in the car, and see if the compressor kicks on. If it does not, then you will need to have the ac charged. If it does kick on, then you need to pay attention to how it cycles, meaning kicking on/off, if it is frequently, then you need to charge it as well.

How to dertermine why the air conditioning compressor is not working on my chevy cobalt - when i turn on the air i dont hear the compressor clutch engaging

Many newer cars have a low-freon sensor that prevents operation of the compressor if it is indeed low on freon. There is a relay, fuse, and the computer associated with the electrical operation as well. Have the freon level checked before looking for other causes. Hope this helps!

Why did the can of R134 freeze when I charged the air conditioner on my 97 Chevy Cavalier? The low side line to my air conditioner (where i hooked up the can of r134) froze as well and my air conditioner...

History?was it working before? you cant just hook up a hose and put it in. First find out why compressor wont run, If it needs compressor, it needs a drier and orifice tube, put on a vaccuum pump for 1 hr then recharged with the correct amount of r134. You need someone who knows a/c to look at it.

A/c hot!

Possibly. Make sure you didn't overfill it. It will not work if there is too much R134 in the system.

If starting from scratch. Turn engine on with AC on Max. Add 1 can first, and the compressor should start to cycle and the air should begin to cool. Add the next and the compressor should run almost consistently. You should get cold air by then and you have enough R134 in it to work well. If that doesn't cure you, then you will have to trust their diagnosis.

REMEMBER. Do not hold the can upside down. Instead, keep switching the can from the 10 o'clock position to 2 o'clock and back. Holding it upside down will also lock up the A/C, as it is being filled with liquid, instead of gas. Liquid does not compress.

first the a/c system need to be put into a vacuum before you add r134. how much r134 does you system need? too much or too little will both get you warm air. does the compressor come on? air in the system will get you warm air too.

good luck

HOW MANY POUNDS FOR THE FREON IN AC

Your system holds .90 lbs of R134 or .41kg of R134

Jun 08, 2009 | 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

AC does not work

Check the fuse for the A/C and try refilling the A/C with R134. You can buy the re charge kit at Auto Zone or Wal Mart, almost any Auto parts store. If the system is low on R134 the A/C compressor will not activate to keep it from burning out.
Try checking the fuse first then re charge the system with a can 12oz of R134. Just keep in mind not to over charge the system. Just follow the instruction and you'll be fine.
Keep me posted, be glad to help out.
