Question about 1993 Ford Explorer Limited

Hey i got a 92 explorer xlt 4x4 transsmission(i think its the tranny)that likes to surge on me when i dont let things heat up. now ive noticed all the filters needed to be changed badly(i poored out gas that looked like mud from the fuel filter, thinking maybe flush the tranny? couldnt hurt but i dunno know really

If the filter looked that bad that may be your problem but it would never hurt to do a service job on a transmission.

It's a good idea to flush and fill the transmission every 30,000 mi. I think that i you have a 1992 Explorer, that it has been not done for quite some time.

Remember, flushing and filling is more effective than just draining and replacing the filter and gasket.

They will fit 91-94 are pretty interchangable. You do have to take the computer with the motor.

I had same problem on my 2002 explorer. Its either the computer module, or the electric solenoid on the transfer case. In my case it was both. The computer module I had done twice in 14 months.

Does the 4x4 "actually" work because this is a signal that the system has a problem. Its like a check engine light that comes on or flashes when there is a problem with the engine or emission system.

If the OD light is flashing, your transmission is bad. Have it rebuilt, because it most likely is the transmission fluid pump. Good luck!
