There are ohm tests you can try, but not reliable because they can test fine cold, but fail as they heat up in normal operation. IMHO swapping with salvage yard unit is the best test, and if this fixes things by new parts to insure reliability. Testing module can be done at parts store, but again not 100% accurate test. Replacement is the only good test.
