Question about 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Over heated suddenly and lost a lot of the anti freeze. I Let it cool down and put some water in it, but not much. I suspect the thermostat is not opening. The car heated up right away and went to over temp. Also noticed the radiator fan was not running even when it heated up

Thanks for writing to

The grand Cherokee has a fluidic clutch in the fan assembly. When the temperature increases the fluid becomes thicker causing the fan to engage. Over a long period of time this fluid breaks down and the clutch mechanism in the fan will no longer engage, causing overheating. It was the radiator fan. It's a 2 speed thing and while idling the higher speed did not work. Will not be cheap , the bumper has to come off.

are you mixing the coolant with water if yes,you need to just put straight up anti freeze ,because water evaporates at high temperatures .. also keep resorvoir full at all times there is a sensor in the tank that when is low it makes the check coolant light come on ,,....good luck

Sounds like you may have a collapsing radiator hose. Have you checked to see if the lower hose may be soft?

The coolant sensor light is on

The coolant sensor liight come on when the Anti-freeze get low. Just top off the ant-freeze and the light will go out. It is norrmal for anti-freeze level to go down but slow. Toping off once or twice a year is ok but anymore then that you really should check for leaks. Low anti-freeze will cause over heating. Over heating can wreak an engine.

What kind of anti freeze do i use for 2000 grand cherokee 6 cyclinder

You must use a 50/50 blend of ethylene-glycol and low mineral content water. This is the ideal solution for Jeep Grand Cherokees within your year. Don't use all water or all antifreeze. You can also use Mopar 5 year antifreeze available at your dealer but it cannot be combined with any other type of anti-freeze so your old anti-freeze will need to be flushed out.

1999 jeep grand cherokee will not blow heat, fix it . the temp doesn't stay steady

Usually when the temp is jumping around that's an indication the system is low on coolant. That could also be why you're not getting any heat. With the engine cold, remove the radiator cap and check the coolant level. If it's low add a 50/50 mixture of anti-freeze and water that should protect it against freezing to -30 F. Make sure you add the same color anti-freeze that's in the system, you're not supposed to mix different colors. The old cars always used green but that was not environment friendly. There should be a plastic burp or surge tank make sure that is filled to the proper level also. Check it again in a day or two to see if it's still full. You may want to check it periodically or have the system checked for leaks by a shop.

2000 jeep grand cherokee v8/heater core

Yes it's the heater core, It's a complicated diy job and unless you are an experienced mechanic you are going to need a good workshop manual for the job.

Best of luck.
