SOURCE: IDLER PULLEY BOLT

I think your best bet would be a junkyard or used parts like You Pull It.There seems to be no store that has the bolt. there are plenty that have the pully.

SOURCE: 1998 Saturn SL idler pulley broke off and bolt is stuck in engine

The idler pully can be removed without removing the engine. I have replaced mine in my 97 SL2. As to the bolt breaking off, that is strange. I assume that if the bolt broke off, then the idler pully also fell off. If I remember, the space is somewhat limited, so getting a removal tool in there could be very difficult, especially if the bolt is flush with the mounting hole. That doesn't sound like a fun project. If bolt protrudes, maybe you can get some vise-grips on it and turn it out.

SOURCE: Can't get A/C belt around pulleys on my 01 Chevy Tracker 2.5 V6

Removal & Installation

1.6L Engine
A/C Compressor Belt

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Loosen the A/C compressor mounting bolts.

To install:
  1. Properly route and install the generator drive belt on the pulleys.
  2. Adjust the alternator drive belt to obtain 6-8 mm (0.24-0.32 in) deflection for a used belt or 5-6 mm (0.20-0.24 in) deflection for a new belt.
  3. Tighten the generator mounting bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  4. Install the power steering and the A/C compressor drive belt.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

Power Steering Pump Belt
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

The bolt holding you up is on the bottom by the compressor, right? You Will have to have an inverted torx socket to remove the studs. Also there is a spacer behind the mount bracket, remember where it goes. You will have to pull the pully bolts and get it out of the way too. Some of those cars have plastic elbows going from the intake to the water pump, be carefull with it. Your motor may not have this but be ready to replace it if it does because it will most likley break. Good Luck.

How to remove idler pulley on 03 saturn vue V6

If you go to Saturn .com you will be able to locate a link with a parts diagram. This will show you the bolt that holds the idler pulley in place. You first have to put a socket and breaker bar on the pulley to remove the tension, then remove belt from tensioner pulley. Try to keep it from falling off other pulleys. There will be a belt routing diagram under the hood on the front to the left or right of the hood latch. Try using a piece of twine or wire to hold belt in place while changing idler pulley. Then remove idler pulley pivot(mounting bolt). Hope this helps, please post solved on fixya.com. So I get credit for a solved problem if it does. If not, check back and give me more info.

Idler pulley noise

you need to replace the idler pulley as when it stops turning it is in a seized position and when its rattling the bearings are making the noise. this indicates it is about to let go(fall apart) you will also need to replace the belt as it will also be worn. you will need to remove the belt using a special tool and then using a rachet with the proper size socket to remove the bolt holding the pulley on to the motor to replace the pulley. don`t put yourself down just because your a country girl. I find that farm girls a very innovative when they need to be. if your sure about doing it yourself then take it to a shop and have it done.

My idler pulley on my 96 ford explorer is grinding on the bracket that holds it in place and creating a loud grinding noise, what steps would I use to resolve it??

change the idler pulley . its held on by a bolt in the center of the pulley. the bearings are sealed so you can't grease them. but first you have to take the tension off the serpintine belt. that is also another pulley located below the idler.don't know what size bolt on a ford but use a long wrench grab the bolt on the tensioner push to the right like you were tightening it. that will release the tension on the belt. don't take the belt all the way off just off the idler pulley. change the pulley and do tha same to reinstall the serpintine belt. if the belt comes all thr way off under the hood or on the front around the top of the radiator there will be a schematic that shows you how the belt should go around everything. let me know what happens. sometimes the tensioner pulley will grind also so be sure your changing the right pulley

How to change a idler pulley

1st , you will have to use a 13-15" metric size socket, with a 3/8 drive ratchet, or suitable size wrench, to hold back onto the tensioner to release the serpentine belt, once this is done, then take the appropiate size socket and ratchet and remove the bolt that holds the idler pulley to the engine, once the pulley is removed, then install the new one , tighten it good , and then route the serpentine belt, and then hold back on the tensioner , while getting belt in postion , for tensioner to hold it, and once the belt is in postion, then release the tensioner onto the belt, and make sure that the belt is evenly and correctly routed , before starrting up the engine.

Need to replace the idle pulley on a ford f250

if it is a 7.3 or 6.0 turbo diesel it will have a duallie tensioner-pulley setup. use a half inch breaker bar or ratchet to grab a hold of the tensioner then turn it very firmly counter clockwise until you can remove the belt. after that use the corresponding size socket and ratchet to loosen the bolt that retains the idler pulley.

What is the proper way to replace a belt idler in FORD ESCORT ZX2

Take the tension off the belt using a long handeled breaker and the appropriate size socket on the center bolt of the tensioner pulley. It will usually move to the left, Use great care in placing the socket so you are positive that it cannot slip. I've been bitten before and it hurts greatly. While the belt is relaxed, which takes some pulling, slide it off any of the top pulleys, just one. Your idler pulley is held in place with one bolt through the center. unbolt it and place the new one in place and tighten it up. After this put your elbow grease to work again on the tensioner and slip the belt back over the pulley you took it from. Before you let the tensioner release make sure the belt is sitting properly in ALL of the pulleys. Actually, when you remove the belt originally it's a good idea to hold it up and away by hooking it anywhere with an old coathanger or a resonabe facimile. Thank, Dana

Change idler pulley

It's a T-40 size, but I removed the bolt by first removing the bracket holding the pulley--I assume you're talking about the alternator idler pulley, the one right below the alternator. The bracket is held in place by three 14 mm bolts which I was able to reach from the top of the engine (after removing the black plastic air tube). I then put the bracket in a vise and "buzzed" off the 14 mm nut using an electric impact wrench ($30 +/- from Heartland of America). Be careful when putting the nut back on--the impact wrench will likely be too much torque!
