Question about BMW X5 Series

1 Answer

I have a 2007 BMW X5. At first I was having problems with my trunk not locking properly...it would be loose. This was due to the screws being loose. My husband tightened them and soon after, I was able to properly lock the trunk door. However, now, the trunk door won't open! I tried my FOB key and all it did was make a noise like it was trying to unlock, but did not. I also tried the trunk release button up front, in the SUV, but it didn't work. All the other doors in my SUV work fine. How do I manually get the Liftgate to open? Is there somewhere that I can use my valet key to open the liftgate? I'm several hundred miles from my home and would like to resolve this on my own without looking for the nearest BMW dealership. Also, ny X5 keeps warning me that my trunk door is unlocked, everytime I stop the X5. Need help ASAP! Planning on hitting the road for a road trip soon and loading up suitcases for 4 people!

This is unfortunate. If the screws were loose and they were tightened, then I think that should have solved the problem, assuming that the latch and striker are adjusted.

There is a recall bulletin for this problem listed on my reference site:

This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. B51 18 07 dated August 2007
designates changes to this revision
SUBJECT
Erroneous Tailgate Open Message or Tailgate Rattles
MODEL
E70 (X5)
SITUATION
While driving the "Trunk Open" check control message may intermittently be displayed, even though
the tailgate is fully closed. Rattling noises or high closing efforts may also be present.
CAUSE
The tailgate sections and/or the striker located in the lower section of the tailgate may not be adjusted
properly.
CORRECTION
Adjusting the tailgate and striker will usually correct this situation.
PROCEDURE
2. Adjust the lower tailgate strikers per Repair Instruction RA 51 24 015.
3. Road test and if the previous adjustments were not effective, continue with the following procedure.
4. Adjust the upper tailgate section per Repair Instruction RA 41 62 030.
NOTE: Ensure that the bump stops are carefully adjusted as mentioned in this RA to ensure adequate
preload on the upper tailgate.
5. Adjust the lower tailgate section per Repair Instruction RA 41 62 033.
NOTE: When adjusting the lower tailgate section, ensure that clearance exists between the inner and
outer tail lamps, or damage to the tail lamps could occur.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
Please refer to the latest KSD for all applicable labor operations and allowances.
---
I think it deserves an eventual trip to the dealership to fix the problem. It will be fixed under warranty terms if you bought the vehicle new and the warranty has not expired.

Good luck on this repair.

Bmw 2007 x5 where's the fuse for drivers side window

Right hand side panel in the cargo bay. Check this location first. With luck the fuse will be located here. If not, the fuse will be under the passenger side kick panel. the bottom of this panel will need to be removed (3 screws), unplug wires, then look for a green screw, loosen it and the fuse box will swing down. Somewhat.

Good Luck
