I might suggest that you have the engine codes checked. It's possible that you could have a bad Engine temp sensor, Coolant sensor, Intake air temp sensor. Or even something as simple as a sticking thermostat that is shutter of then engine due to a over heating issue.

Where is the map sensor located on a 2006 mercury montego?

It doesn't have one , has a mass air flow sensor .
Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor The MAF sensor uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine. Air passing over the hot wire causes it to cool. This hot wire is maintained at 200°C (392°F) above the ambient temperature as measured by a constant cold wire. If the hot wire electronic sensing element must be replaced, then the entire assembly must be replaced. Replacing only the element may change the air flow calibration.

Hi there:This code can also be related to the MAF or mass air flow sensor. Lets test it before we try anything new.
Testing and Inspection:

MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR (MAF SENSOR)
This hot film type air flow sensor is composed of a hot film sensor, housing, and a metering duct (hybrid, sensor element). The mass airflow rate is measured by detection of heat transfer from a hot film probe. A change in the mass air flow rate will cause a change in the amount of heat being transferred from the hot film probe surface to the air flow. This results in a change in temperature of the hot film probe and a change of resistance.

P0101

Here is the definition of the code.

P0101 GMC Description The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is placed in the stream of intake air. It measures the intake flow rate by measuring a part of the entire intake flow. It consists of a hot film that is supplied with electric current from the Engine Control Module (ECM).

The temperature of the hot film is controlled by the ECM acertain amount. The heat generated by the hot film is reduced as the intake air flows around it. The more air, the greater the heat loss. Therefore, the ECM must supply more electric current to maintain the temperature of the hot film as air flow increases. The ECM detects the air flow by means of this current change.
Faulty mass air flow sensor
- Intake air leaks
- Dirty mass air flow sensor
- Dirty air filter
- Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
- Mass air flow sensor electrical circuit poor connection

Complete loss of acceleration

Hi it would not be the mass flow sensor, it would be more like the cam and/or crank sensor, cam sensor gets a lot of heat on it from the engine this can warp the sensor over time and when it cools down its not in line properly. crank is in the oil all the time and gets hot over time it can overheat. if both of the sensors fail as the read engine speed the engine will cut out. then when you restart the engine light will be on but it will be in limp mode. that means that one of the sensors is reading, then when this fails again the engine will cut out.

Map senser ware is it no my car

It's called a MAF sensor. You can clean the short heated wires inside with a can of spray carb cleaner. Do not touch the wires. They get coatedwith varnish and make the car hesitate. Sometimes turns on CEL light, DTC codes P0171 or 74.

4 nuts hold the housing on.

Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor The mass air flow sensor (MAF sensor) (12B579) :
  • is located between the engine air cleaner (ACL) (9600) and the throttle body (9E926) .
  • uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine. Air passing over the hot wire causes it to cool.
  • sends an analog voltage signal to the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) to determine the intake air mass. The powertrain control module will then calculate the required fuel injector pulse width in order to provide the desired air/fuel ratio.
The mass air flow sensor hot wire sensing element and housing are calibrated as a unit and must be serviced as a complete assembly.

Does a 1996 Ford Taurus 3.0 have a hot wire type mass air flow sensor or a vane type? Would spraying carb cleaner into the MAF fix the problem of hard cold engine start? Once the engine warms up does the...

TheMobilian, Yes, the Mass Air Flow is a Hot Wire type. There is a spray made for the mass called mas air flow cleaner. Regular cab cleaner is too harsh and can eat the coating inside mass air flow and it's delicate parts. Use throttle bore foam cleaner; it works like bathroom scrubbing bubbles and eats the gum and varnish. When engine warms up (closed Loop) both sensors work together giving input to ecm for output. Have someone with a live data reader read both sensors. (Let me know the readings?)

Image Mass Air Flow(MAF)Sensor

PURPOSE

The Mas s Air flow (MAT) sensor measure s the amount of air flowing into the engine.

This value is used by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in calculating the required

Fuel injector pulse within order to provide the desired air fuel ratio. This input can also

be used in determining Electronic Pressure Control (EPC). Shift and torque converter

clutch scheduling.

CONSTRUCTION

The MAE sensor is located directly in the airflow path between the air cleaner housing

and the throttle body. Ail air entering the intake manifold must pass through the sensor.

Located in the MAT sensor directly in the airstream are two platinum wires, a hot wire

heated by electrical current and a cold reference wire. The MAF sensor uses the air flow

across these wires to calculate its output.

OPERATION

The hot wire is maintained at 200CC (392CF) above ambient temperature as measured by

a constant cold *e. The current required to maintain the temperature of the hot wire is

proportional to the air mass flow. The MAE sensor then measures the amount of

electrical current required to maintain this temperature difference and converts this

value to an analog DC voltage. This output varies directly with the mass air flow rate.

Pay attention to the Paragraph about the torq converter.

After driving awhile and engine is hot and car is

Put a scanner on it and look at the readings, especially fuel trim and air flow. I suspect you have a leak in the plenum gasket and are getting air in the system that is not measured by the air flow sensor. THis will show up in the reading with the engine running LEAN, and the O2 sensors not in the correct range.

My 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee cuts off while driving

Sounds a whole lot like a dirty or malfuncitionig idle air control valve. A coil would generally show up as a miss under load or high rpm, crank sensors generally work or they dont, only sometimes giving you a miss, but that would be all the time at any rpm. Computer, I doubt for too many reasons to list. Could also be related to a bad throttle position sensor or a very slight vacuum leak.
