Buy parts . remove old parts . install new parts. only need a helper and a socket to fit the tensioner. put socket on tensioner and push down , loosen belt . reinstall same way

Where's the spring tension on changing the serpentine belt on a 1997 Suzuki sport

the accessory belts.
there are many belts here on the J18 , 1.8L engine, the 1.6L has no such belt so, must be the DOHC engine, as all true SPORTS have.

J18 engine.
here is the answer, ( covers this fully)
The Alt and water pump is automatically tensioned on the 1.8L and the PS & A/C is set similar to the 1.6L below but with a special left of crank tension pulley( with a single bolt adjuster)
see same as G16 engine to 22 lbs force will cause a deflection of 1991-98' = 0.24 to 0.31 inches (non SERP)

be clear on what belt
seen here , see page? 18 , belt 12 or 16???

the auto tensioner has no adjustment, its just preloaded over belt.

How do remove factory alternator on my 92 Suzuki

All belts are tensioned. be that V belts or serps.

both engines are the same. 8v and 16v

its covered here.
loosen 2 bolts #10 and 5 (x2) (drawing numbers)
tilt the alt towards the engine
the belt is off.
put one back, reverse above and set the tension to spec.
THE Spec: 22 lbs force will cause a deflection of 91-98' = 0.24 to 0.31 inches [89/90 0.20- 0.32"]

if you have optional, A/C and P/S then that comes off first.
and is covered there, the P/S has trick read it.

Install & remove belts

which engine,..
the accessory belts , alt. p/s , a./c , ?
the FSM covers this as does
they are all the same, Vbelt to vbelt , serp to serp
relax tension, pull belt
put on new,
reset tension, the big diff is the tension, deal.
auto tension or you do it via , adjusters and how tight. (spec)
so i log in, to
and got belts page
10 diffr, drawing to set this , the 3Liter, has autotensioner
may different engine, offered world wide
the page is complex due to 3.5 and 3.2 having 3 belts and each its tensionor (manual)
so post the engine type, only about 1 in 4000 post

Have had to replace serp belt twice already - whining noicse again from same area. ANyone else had numerous serp. belt problems ?

It may not be the belt, could be the tensioner not applying enough pressure, or A/C bearing going out. check other things that are turning with the belt

The serpentine belt squeaks. I'll check the belt & the tensioner. Anything else I should look for?

The Corolla's has a hydralic belt tensioner. When you replace the serp belt you need to buy a factory Toyota belt. The reason why the after-market reproduction belts are slightly long or short. This
will either cause a squeaky belt problem or a over adjusted belt condition which could burn up one of your engines accessories (p/s pump, alt. etc.)
